There will be 3 240's out on the Historic Cup section of the Trackrod Rally this weekend, Dominic Frattaroli, Duncan Pearcey and Debby & myself.

Our class is one of the most interesting (no Escorts) with the 3 240Z's (hooray!) and 5 Porsche 911's (Boo!)

This takes place on Saturday (2nd October). The start is in the Market Square in Malton at 07.00(!), central service area and spectator stage at the Showground just South of Pickering and the real stages are in the forests just North of Pickering (Dalby, Cropton etc)

Finish is back in the Market Square, Malton mid/late afternoon - hopefully we shall be there!

Event website is www.rallyyorkshire.co.uk where you will find spectator info etc.

It was an "interesting" rally for the 240Z's!

Dominic & Wyn actually ended up 3rd in the "Post Historics" (1968 - 1974 cars) but lost at least a minute in a huge "almost accident" with the car leaping onto 2 wheels, then hurtling down along the ditch on one side of the track then across and down the ditch on the other side, before driving out with the steering bent! All a bit exciting but another fast drive by Dominic!

Duncan and Jon were out for the first time this year. They went straight on at a junction and damaged the bonnet (fibreglass) attachment to the hinges. Once up to speed again the bonnet flipped up over the screen and roof and eventually flew off. They did the next stage with no bonnet but then thought it was more sensible (and legal!) to stop. A nice spectator collected the bonnet and returned it to Duncan in the service area.

We had a very exciting moment when we were first car on the scene of a rolled Escort with the crew trapped inside. The car was upside down in a ditch with one door against the ditch side and the other against 2 trees. Thanks (for once!) to being 15 stone, I was able to shift the trees and get the co-driver out. The driver's foot was jammed in the footwell so I had to get 1/2 in the upturned car and get it clear for him before we could get him out too.

After checking they were OK and there were marshals to help them we rushed on with the stage, only to break the gearbox on the next one! Without 1st or 2nd gear the hairpins were impossible so we gave up too.

The Trackrod is an excellent event, very well organised and not too rough. Some of the stages have long, high speed straights where the Z can pull over 100mph.

Dominic will be out again on the Bulldog Rally in Mid Wales in 3 weeks time. We shall not be there but may try to do the Tempest Rally which is down in our part of the country. Must check the overdraft (and spare gearbox!) first.

Hugh

Hugh,

Where did you get the 3rd place from? Do I read the webinformation wrong? If I visit result I find Dominic at place 5, or is this result not final. Note: not that i don't want him at 3rd but it is for the record

ps. don't forget Graham Woodhouse / Christopher Clifford are already on the entry list of the Bulldog

The two cars you are seeing in there are Stig Blomquist (yes, THE Stig Blomquist!) and Gareth Lloyd in Mk 2 Escorts (Class D5).

They are in the "Classic's" for cars 1975 - 1981 otherwise known as MSA Historic Category 3.

This is a new championship, not yet part of the British Historic Championship and definitely not in our "Post Historic" (MSA Category 2) group. The Post Historics are classes C 1- 5 and the 240Z's are Class C4 (over 2000cc).

Sorry to seem pedantic!

Hugh

ps Did you notice that Stig was beaten by a Post Historic Mk1 Escort? This is what we are up against!!

There is a good sequence of pictures of Dominics 'incident' in Motorsport News page 17. They show a great view of the underside of the car, it looks like he is trying to impersonate Russ Swift's 2 wheel driving stunt!

We did not do the Tempest Rally as we were both ill after the Trackrod, so the dead gearbox is still in the car! There were no "Historics" entered in the end.

On the day, we went along to marshal. The day was quite boring until a Subaru in the Clubmans' section of the rally got very sideways just before our juntion and then barrel-rolled past us - a bit close!

The crew were OK but the car was a mess!
