Track-day tyres

all our opinions are subjective as non of them are based upon any constants or backed up tested data.

Going to Donington with one car , one driver and two different sets of tyres on the same day with on board timing of the same accuracy as TSL Timing seemed to me to be be as good as its gets as far as accurate data collection goes.We have then made decisions based on our own data.
We may be a very small part time two man operation on the UK Time Attack scene but we are serious in what we do.

Indeed you are but seeing as your data is quite understandably private, I was referring to all those other opinons not backed up - you (the royal you) were therefore obviously exempt !

Its not all private Frenchie.;)
I already said the car was running Trofeo Rs in 245/45-16 size.
That was what we concluded was the best tyre for Steves car.

Now lets stop all this serious stuff and get back to an internet debate about tyres

I will re start with........................................
Here is a picture on my NON S30 on track using Federal 595Rs
They are great and cheap s chips!!!:driving:

Steve! Sean cant help posting s**t on the forum.. he is Mr Isolated French Person. All alone in huge swathes of rural France. So be "nice" to him or that "nice" Mr Gasket will be along to tell you...and me to play "nicely"! Cos this is a "nice" forum..
Now lets get back to discussing the usual "nice" topics like "what oil shall I use?" "What colour shall I paint the shell?" etc etc
We dont want to get edited, have our threads cleaned up or banned do we??

Well not in the first week anyway:rofl:

Back on topic, I'm still undecided about tyres for the silver car so I may just stick with the US ditch finders that came on the car. They seam pretty good on the road and look new. Then again the feds are cheap but are they really a step up from fast road tyres? Or do I buy some AR-1's just for the track?

No, not all private info and as you yourself said, THAT tyre info is available from anyone walking through the pits OR looking at the Time Attack blog featuring Steve's car.

But as you're giving nothing else away (normal) and nobody's asking you Guido Mr Pit-stp, go ruffle someone else's feathers and take Data-breath with you as no-one is arguing against his facts based upon data.....simply that the data doesn't apply to anyone unless they're undertaking the same challenge to which Mr S has risen.

We're now going back to TRACK-DAY tyres and NOT competition-defined needs.

Nankang NS2R in 195/50x15 @ £65 per tyre.

That's my final choice after loads of research and based on performance/£.

When was the last track tyre comparison made, motorcycle magazines do them quite often.

The thing about control tyres is that it only helps work out what is the best for them out of the permitted range, not an accurate test against others. Also depends on what sizes are possible in that given make.

For a properly accurate and not subjective test we'd have to find a common size in every make and do a single test from there?

I believe that all we're looking for here is a a 'guide', rather a list of available track-day tyres for wheels of 14, 15, 16 and maybe 17".

From that list, individuals can look at their size needs and go compare to others via test sites and asking for experiences of similar tyres here etc

Frankly
If you read my post
The time attack cars (in 2015) were allowed any tyre, Kumho, Toyo, Avon, Yokohama you name it. From 2016 we were only permitted the Trofeo as control tyres, and the cars are continually smashing the 2015 lap records set on those tyres, yes some of the cars are evolving but some are developed as far as they can go and are restricted by class rules that's as close a comparison as you're going to get
The data is in the public domain see TSL timing website .....pages and pages of it going back years
