1.20.9 !! is that all, I thought they would be quicker than that
Sigh

Hardly apples and apples is it TwoForty, a 30 year old HSCC car weighing 1040 kilos with standard brakes (solid discs and twin pots) and a warm engine on twin SU's (out putting significantly less than 220 hp) against a 220hp PUG.
Now stick a comparably powered Z (with decent suspension) on the same track and watch the Pug struggle:devil:

Be nice to see the Modsports times that Dave Jarman used to run.

Sigh? you should get some sleep!
I wasn't comparing like for like, I was just curious what kind of times a Z can get around Combe. I thought the HSCC with experienced drivers would be quicker than that....that is not a comparison. The pug is ugly as are most other french cars; it is a very light 800kg car so as you say you can't compare to a 1040kg car.
I would like to know Dave times also, would be very interesting

My brothers old 205 did 1.16.947 and that was with road tyres

Two orty - you started the comparison with your inflammatory and deliberately vague/misleading comments/remarks - don't curucify us now for being inflamed ;) ! You got what you wanted :) !

Why don't you ask Dave ? david.jarman@openreach.co.uk

I didn't get a lot of sleep - a massive coughing fit - must stop smoking cigars.....

Nevertheless it is a French car - the concept was French ! Many great British sportscars were not designed by British.........or at the very least had their final styling influenced by Italian styling houses - Ghia, Touring, Bertone, Pinifarina........

And the greatest of all - Marcello Gandini :D !

But if you ship your styling out to Pinifarina, and stick a Pinifarina badge on the side of it, then it's styled by the Italians! French car, Italian style.

2CV, any of the new wide mouth Peugeots, 206CC...

Isn't that BL did with the Morris Marina ?

Notice the no plate in the photo - '83' that's the Var - Avignon, where it's currently 28°c - great little car for warm climes and cheap to run too ! Do I win that one......I think not :)

But the original quote was 'most French cars'.......!

Funny, I wouldn't say a 205 gti is ugly... A Visa yes, a R11, R9 or all Renault from the era yes, but so are Maestro, Allegro, Metro, tr7, ...
It's hard to find todays British car ugly, well it's hard to find a real Bristish today period :D

Call me a male chauvanist, but I liken my women to cars IE; A Saab Turbo= firkin ugly but goes well!:D

2cv= about 18 pints+:conf2:
Austin Allagro= 18 pints +:conf2:
Triumph Tr6= 6 pints and a bottle of bubly:eek:
Datsun 240z= half bottle of scotch and a bottle of pink gin!:D
Datsun 260z 2+2.... mineral water....:bow: ....:p

This then, is what you need to drink before you find 'em pretty ? The only reason you're on mineral water is that your liver has been abused with all the crap you've owned before !

I, on the other hand, liken my cars to women :

2cv= spotty librarian, wearing wooly tights and a baggy pullover !
Austin Allegro= her middle aged sister who works for local govt !
Triumph Tr6= her elder sister who suffers from Alkzheimers !
Datsun 240z= her next eldest sister who despite her age can still do three step dancing sessions a week and has thighs and buttocks of iron !
Datsun 260z 2+2 = her mother !

Sean I was replying to Skiddel not you, Racing is a comparison by nature, the fact that one car is a 22yr old NA 1.8 pug and the other a modified 30 yr 240z with nearly 10 second difference in laptimes is not a direct comparison but a comparison all the same. You could say its not fair to compare one team with millions to spend compared to another on a shoe string. I didn't not say standard you assumed standard and I then told you otherwise, all the cars you say were modified at japfest and I guess some are pushing 200bhp+. I'm not knocking the drivers or the cars I just thought the times would be quicker...what is wrong with that? Seems like everything is taken so seriously with dramatic statements.
I don't need Dave J's email as I already have it, I prefer to talk to him on the phone. I will ask him his times when I see him in a few weeks to pick up some parts.
As for french cars/engineering ...:eek: what aload of rubbish :D citreon? junk...renault? junk...pugs? Personally I can't stand them. British cars? ha ha what british cars?
Anyway all this makes me smile which is the main thing! :p

I'm not taking this too seriously Twoforty - don't worry, and I know you wee replying to Skiddell but as it's an open forum, I thought I would julmp in as I had something to say :) !

The Pugs' times were during races I guess ?

Dave also prefers to talk on the phone rather than email but please don't bother him too much as he has my car to finish and the deadline is getting tight ;) !

French engineering ? De Dion, front wheel drive, LSDs (I think), Matra and their wonderful Le Mans V12s ! Again Bugattis ! There were more French auto constructors until the second world war than British and there still are !

British cars ? Err - Morgan, TVR, Noble.......?

ps I love dramatic statements - so very provocative - just don't sulk if the provoked react ;) ! Don't get mad - get even :D !

Austin = .................Powers ?
Austin Healy = (Healey with an 'e')
Jenson = going once...going - gone !
AC = went a long time ago
MG = joke right ?
Triumph = snick, barr - ask Russ :confused:
Lotus = GM

You even built Citreon 11s (or were they 15s) in Slough - home of the GT40s !

There you go again Dizzy taking things out of context

Heritage "Something that is passed down from preceding generations; a tradition" all of this implies the past, previous, preceeding, before, prior, history.

You have taken my list and mearly updated it with current status of ownership/trading proving what?

Aston Martin = Ford
-- not when they made the V8 Vantage or the DB5

Rolls Royce = VW
-- If it wasnt for the racing pedigree of the merlin engine (all be it aero racing) we would all be wearing lederhosen and speaking with a very pronounced Bavarian accent.

Bentley = BMW
-- Ever heard of the Bentley blowers, need I say more

Austin = .................Powers
?

Austin Healy = (Healey with an 'e')
-- won plenty of prestigious races -- on French soil

Jenson = going once...going - gone !
-- If you were to give one (Oo err :eek: ) you wouldnt complain

AC = went a long time ago
-- but without them the Cobra wouldnt exist

MG = joke right ?
-- no joke smart alec check out le Mans in 1933 or Brooklands and in 1931 at Montlhery the supercharged EX12O became the world's first 750 cc car to set records of 100 mph +,

Triumph = snick, barr - ask Russ
---TR4, 5, 6 -- iconic

Lotus = GM
-- or according to the Lotus website Proton but they wernt when they built the Elan, the 7 or the Esprit or the worlds first affordable mid engined car (Europa) or the worlds first fibreglass monocoque (Elite) nevermind the single seater race cars.

The point I was making was that you may have lots of bouncy suspension Citroens built by maserati, a few sporty Renaults with a smattering of Bugatti but thats your lot. I just checked in the encyclopedia under "French sports cars" and guess what the answer was "bugger all"
