I think it came like that. It's clearly quite old. The rim of the wheel is actually wood imprinted plastic.

I am assuming it was a promotional piece, maybe for dealers?

At some point - to take part in forums like these - you have to put your man pants on and take a little bit of rough with the smooth. You cannot seriously expect everyone to like what you do, and you really must try not to overreact to such a mild comment. There's no way it was meant to be taken personally.
