Decided to get the old Nissan Sunny (N14) back on the road after a year on SORN. It’s used as a second car for short journeys and around town etc. It was only used a few times during 2020 and not at all during 2021.
It is now 28 years old and is very far from mint, but it has been totally reliable over the last 18 years of ownership. I had to replace the alternator about 5 years ago as the bearings were failing, but otherwise it’s been the usual tyres and exhausts, brake pads, and a couple of new callipers. Also has had a couple of patches welded on rear sill corners.
Anyway, I charged up the battery and it started right away, so gave it a wash and hoover and took it for an MOT…
It failed… but only on a split steering rack gaiter plus it needs a new patch welding on the outer sill. That’s now been repaired and I have a years MOT!
I have been driving it about to use up the old fuel which is well over a year old. Decided to stick with 95 ron unleaded even though it is E10. I read that Redex can be added to the tank to prevent E10 issues, so have tried that.
Anyone got any thoughts on this? I had considered just using 97 ron as it's still E5, so can always switch...
Anyway, pretty good considering it has lived outside in the UK the whole time we’ve had it.
PS: Will add some pics soon.
