the best quiet fuel pump...

But for my money I would go RHDJPN and new ...

Or at least that is what I was considering when I was wondering if my mech pump would be man enough for the more powerful engine. Also I was worried that it may not ab internals designed to hardy against ethanol.

Question is, if you use this sort of pump, do you need a pressure regulator? I don’t think Nissan used one on their elec + mech double pump setup, did they? I believe that the Kiki is already low pressure and doesn’t overwhelm carbs but happy to be put in my place if wrong.

oh bugger. Why did you have to put that up!

From previous experience with red tops on Weber’s I would be tempted to install a regulator, they deliver 7psi (ish) more than the 3-4psi the Weber’s require. If ur pump is only delivering 3psi it won’t be capable of dealing with the fuel delivery rate when you have your foot down, ie you’ll lean off.

That is the very reason I asked franky 'why a red-top' . The one I just bought was the low pressure one 'silver top'? Our carbs only want 2-3 psi not 6-8.

I’ll have to google it but I think a silver top will struggle at 200bhp ish. I had to go for red top on my vx red top 2ltr motor. Too many red tops!

Is that more a question of fuel flow rate rather than fuel pressure? I know they are related but I'm no expert hence the question.

You can’t have more flow without more pressure unless you install a bigger fuel line
I'm not sure that's true, is it? surely in an unrestricted system you can accelerate a fluid without increasing pressure in the system. Sure, you need to increase pressure in the pump but that won't pressurise the system.

It’s not un-restricted, the pump has a given capacity for its size and you have fuel lines from a pump at the rear.
At pump max flow rate the discharge pressure will drop off, but it still needs to be able to deliver sufficient flow and adequate pressure to feed the carbs through 3mtrs of pipe and bends and deal with full throttle and / or sudden demand. To achieve this it has sufficient capacity (or head) which is seen as the higher pressure.
These fuel pumps are interrupter type pumps and run until they achieve set discharge pressure, ~7psi. They then slow down to meet demand, but ultimately they are trying to maintain a set discharge pressure.

We'll see. Bear in mind that this is the back-up pump. If I was on track I'd buy a more powerful one but how much time am I going to be on full load? In the last 5 years it's probably been 1 minute total! I'm getting out more from now on.
