Technoversions diff mount

I’ve used the Ron Tyler mount on a few cars now and I highly recommend it. I do use it as just a snubber though to stop the standard mount braking. Well worth the £60 odd it costs.

Do you have any pictures of the mount you are referring to?

This is the one I’m looking at ordering

Resurrecting an old thread rather then starting a new one, hope that is ok.

I have one of these diff mounts and I am using the original nissan diff mount on the cross member for holding the diff.

There is another way to mount these mounts and that is to use a different bush which allows you to do away with the original cross member diff mount, which means you mount the diff from above on this bushing.

Has anyone else mounted it this way and have you had any problems with the angle of the diff and what modification if any did you have to do with the bushing

Pic below for reference:

Thanks.

Mine had the snub, but when it gets remounted I plan to fit that bushing instead, however I still plan on keeping the stock mount also so I can't help you there. I

I’ve fitted a few of these and just use it as a snubber with the old Nissan mount. Many years ago when I first fitted one I hung it from the supplied GM mount. I found it was far too close to the crossmember. I had originally planned to cut the centre out of the crossmember to make diff changing easier but then realised I would remove a lot of chassis stiffness that the crossmember provided.

just fitted one i picked up in LasVegas .Brian the man form techno posted it so i had no postage charge . first time in vegas and we only had 4 days is they called a state emergency and it all shut down . so got out in a hurry ( no thanks to virgin atlantic just left us to sort it out your selfs ) can be a pain to fit if your diff is in place but you can remove the front mount by holding the suspention arm in place . as everyone has said just fit the snubber i had a go at the GM mount but it drops the prop shaft so it hits the anti roll bar . makes a load of difference when you have fitted one . see if you can get someone else to buy one to reduce the postage . chris

Thanks guys for your input.

I have been running the snubber set up with the original stock diff mount on the cross member for a number of years and I am very happy with it. However, I would like to modify the cross member to make room for a wider diameter twin pipe exhaust system then the one I've got (and still maintain good ground clearance), hence the requirement to do away with the stock diff mount.

I found this photo from an old post online, you can see that his diff is not too close to the cross member and sway bar, this is on a 280Z, maybe they had more room or perhaps he has modified the bushing:

Further to my post above, I have now discovered that there is a shorter top mount available, this puts your diff nose back up and inline with where it should be originally. All you need to do is slightly sand out the bushing where it meets the diff so it's concave and follows the curve of the diff nose.

The part number is Energy Suspension 3.1158. I've just ordered one.

Mr G. At the risk saying what you already know, isn’t that cross member a structural item and wouldn’t chopping it away like that going to weaken the structure?

Ali, I don't intend on chopping mine like that, I am going to be using 2 diff cross members, flipping one around, splicing and welding one out of the two. That way I will have a large exhaust indent on both passenger and drivers side. There may be some trimming to the top of the drivers side but it should be fairly minimal. With the diff mount moved to the top it wont have any downward force on the cross member, so less stress on it.
