Tax exemption for Classic Cars

An e-petition has been initiated at:

Restore a rolling 30 year-old exemption to VED, for classic vehicles - e-petitions

As you are no doubt aware, the last incumbent Government froze the definition of a "Classic Car" as anything registered prior to 1st January 1973.
The previous Tory Government initiated and supported a rolling 25 year old rule which, if it had continued, would by now allow tax exempt 260Zs, 280ZXs and some 300ZX Z31s. In some small way this might have been a factor in preventing the early demise of some of these models...

Prior to election, David Cameron did suggest at one time that he would be in favour of a reinstatement of the 25 year rule. To be fair, he has other things on his mind at the moment, so signing the petition to get the required 100,000 signatures may jog his memory and get this discussed in Parliament again.

No doubt they will then find other ways to shaft the motorist, but worth a try!

Steady on, there, Mike, it might be Friday afternoon, but don't get carried away....

The Petition for the abolition of Road Tax for Classics in certainly 'winnable', to my mind, but Fuel Tax....not a chance !
Far too much income for the Government to lose.

Good idea for the petition, though, I think it could work.
