Spike and samuri new web site

Ta Rob, when you say you saw one, do you think there was more than one, it only read as a one off...??

Would love to see more of it, I had a girlfriend in the early 80's who had a 120y coupe before I could drive  !! I have had a soft spot for 'em ever since, cant imagine why....:D

If anyone nows any more about its more recent history and whereabouts etc I'd love to hear about it

Edited to say, google doesn't have much on this either which is where most research is done these days, but I did pick up the following which shows there may have been a least 2 of these...

". . to take an innocent 1200 Datsun Sunny Coupe, chop it around, install a Datsun 240Z engine tuned to Super Samuri specification, with triple Weber carburettors and so on, and develop it into an ultra-quick, yet docile, road car cum Super Saloon racer."

The project seemed to be progressing well until CR raced it in a Super Saloon race for the first time, when a wheel came adrift, tucked under, and launched the car into a spectacular series of rolls. That seemed to be the end of its racing career, although CR says that Spike Anderson then built another purely as a road car. "

What do you want to know about it? I believe the second car ^^^ is owned by a Z club member and tis being restored. It was for sale a few years ago and I walked away from it:eek:...asking price was < £1.5K ! Maybe it was a mistake but too many projects etc etc:driving:

Thanks Datsfun, I was just curious really, when I searched the reg I fully expected it to not be recognised and so when it showed up I wondered where it was and with it not being licenced for so long, if it was stashed somewhere unloved...!!

Did you take those pics when you walked away or are they recentish, it does not seem to have altered very much at all since the picture taken outside the premises at Silverstone in the early 80's. Cant get much for 1500 quid these days can you....;)

Pictures are only 3-4 yrs old. The shell had been completely restored and the 250BHP :rolleyes:2.8ltr rebuilt. The wiring and interior required attention. I didnt test drive it , but was told it was kwik. No reason to believe otherwise. Hopefully it will resurface soon:thumbs:

£1500 is not a lot of cash, but I could see that it needed another 2 grand or so to get it 100%. And it would have been a track car, not even a sunday driver...no heaters, etc etc.

I don't know if anyone has seen lately, but the website seems to have been updated and on the projects page there are some nice high res pictures, most of which have already been seen in different places but in "full screen" they look pretty good.

the 2 cars side by side racing is obviously a very early edition of photoshop.....:D

What has that got to do with the pictures at all.....???

But seeing as you started it...

From another thread

Sean Dezart said:
this modern f/g (E-glass) is miles away from council dustbins and that there should be a market not only for competition and track-day cars but road cars as well, whether that be to protect the original steel panels or to replace shagged parts within a reasonable budget.

Oh and...

This is about people keeping their cars on the road in presentable condition if not better and at a reasonable budget.

Bit touchy aren't you ?

The first comment would be applicable to anyone who has a metal one and wishes to protect it and I bow to the second.

Btw, this year will see copies made of the less pointed Samuri spoilers - I have my hands on my old green one.;)

No not touchy, just don't see the relevance to my original post is all...

Where did you get the spoiler back from...?

Thanks for updating us about the new Updates, as it were, Jonathan.

The most interesting thing for me is that we have seen, for the first time, a published Register ( or at least, Spike's version of the ) genuine Samuri Registration numbers.

Might stir up a few arguments......and I might suggest that there's one missing..........

It seems to me that a lot of the info has gone from the site if I remember there was a list of sams together with photos of them on it
