Ive never had a spare wheel in 21 years of ownership, but in recent years i have used the car a lot more, so a spare would be a smart idea at this point i think.
Maybe a 15" or 16" 6 or 7j steel wheel with a suitable sized tyre, from a more modern vehicle would fit the bill nicely!
What other cars new or oldish have got the correct PCD?
