Spare wheel or inflation kit ?

Hi all, I know virtually non of us carry a spare in our daily drivers....but for our 240/260z ?...

Just looking at the weight saving by not carrying around a spare (and the added tool storage space) and just carrying an inflation kit...makes lots of sense..

also, what have people done use the spare wheel well and then cover it over under the carpet, if you have removed the spare ?

cheers Graham

I had a qashqai+2 Tekka edition that had an upgraded sound system.

It had a bass and amp unit fitted as standard in the spare wheel well.

Wondered if that equipment would fit or if there was something on the market?

My idea anyway 👌

I haven't carried a spare since i got the car in 1996! mainly because I'd rather get it recovered than use the OEM jack on the sills!

I changed my tyres from runflats to PS4 on my R35 GTR, going to Le Mans I ran over a trailer ratchet. it split my sidewall leaving the port.

You wound think a French tyre you could get quite quickly, err no a week at least. Had full cover as well. So filled it full of tyreweld got a return on the shuttle, replaced it in hour in UK and went back the next day...

Long trip I will take a spare

Just brought a 370Z spare to fit over my brakes on the 32

I bought a space saver for my 370Z and ditched the squirty can of gunk that came with it. I've done lots of miles in Europe and didn't want to get stranded with a flat. Quite how I would have got the road wheel in the car is another matter...

Just for interest, the 370Z also has a Bose bass speaker mounted in the spare wheel well (as mentioned above) but it actually fits within the space saver which is good planning on Nissan's part. I believe it's a legal requirement to carry a spare in some countries so I expect that's the reason.

My 240Z has a full size spare because I managed to buy 5 wheels at a time so decided I would kick myself if I got a flat and had left it at home. That's the reason my boot floor mat has a power bulge in it!

its not a back idea to have a 5th Rota...a classic tire to fit the original steel rim is about the same as the new Rota tire !

Yep, I managed to get a spare for my 370Z. It was a 4.5" (I think) alloy used in some markets.

Running without a spare is a gamble I don't like taking. It's also worth carrying a decent big wheel-brace and checking wheel-nuts at home after servicing or tyre fitting to make sure you can undo them.

Came home from Yorkshire today. Saw two punctures. One a trailer in a layby with wheel off (assume no spare so taken it for repair) the other a car with a jack under the sill but nothing else going on - assume not a handy man or wheel nuts too tight.

This thread prompted me to check the pressures in my spares this afternoon. The 370Z space saver was a little low so it's back up to the correct pressure now.

Whilst I did that I found this which I'd forgotten I had (I bought the space saver 2nd hand and this came with it). It's a wheel bag to put your (possibly wet / dirty) wheel in to save the boot luggage from getting mucky.
