Wouldn't it be harder to have competitive prices/decent profit margin when you pay tax/duty to bring the car into the UK from the US then again from the UK to the EU?

Yes it is harder to do so,
I think I have to consider shipping cars from the US over to EU in the near future.

But honestly things sell pretty quick in the uk.
