So it looks like I have a hole

No, you don't get it. Clearly.

Still, if it's your idea of an adventure, crack on. Midlife crisis cliches used to be a choice between a new patio and a Harley Davidson. These days it seems to be a hare-brained 'keep everybody happy' family-friendly modern engine-swapped 'classic' which is neither fish nor fowl. Selection of the project base seems to be first-looked-at and pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey style impetuosity more than informed and considered purchase.

"Woof woof".
really? I've had several mid-life crises already so I'm over that... I'm quite happy with a RB engine as I drove one for 5 years and had the 6speed gearbox in the Z but I don't need to explain it to you we can all sit in past if you like...

yes getting somebody like Mike to look at the car first would have prudent, it's done I'm moving on. Helpful comments are better than just moaning mate

I tried some helpful - hopefully informative - comments, and they were met with...

yes... I get it, my mechanic will be well employed

But anyway...

Depends on year and market model. People think that terms like "260Z" and "280Z" mean one thing, but these cars had rolling detail changes in between major updates. The North American market only had '260Z'/'260Z 2+2' models for a year before the '280Z' and '280Z 2+2' models were introduced, whilst the other Export markets never received any '280Z' badged models at all and continued with '260Z' badged models until late 1978. This complicates matters regarding specs and parts interchange. I don't believe you have mentioned exactly what it is you have bought anyway...

You need to know exact market model, year and - ideally - month of manufacture in order to fully understand what will fit and what will not. Floor pan panels had radical changes in the years concerned, so asking for "260Z 2+2 floor panels" or "280Z 2+2 floor panels" will not necessarily get you what you want, especially if you are looking at suppliers in predominantly RHD markets (like Australia).

I only have the year of manufacture and a copy of the title that gives me the vin number, can it be determined what month of manufacture from the Vin?

On the car itself yes it has a bad floor in places and box section is a mess but bottom of the doors and sills look OK, yes it could be a mess underneath likewise under the wings. I didn't pay a lot for it and he has an OK engine and 5 speed gearbox. I want it strong for the more powerful engine, it doesn't have to be original. I chose a 280z for this reason as a classic 240 with small bumpers should stay like that...

we will see when we take it apart

Look for this metal plate near the driver side door striker. Month year Vin. May have to wait until it's landed at this point.
IDN if month range can be determined from VIN's on a later car like yours, the Z registry on early cars would be helpful on early cars.
Maybe someone else has more info?

Check out Hung Vu on Facebook in San Jose Cali, his company is re-popping the dashes currently. For now just 240 LHD, 280 LHD soon. Has been some talk about RHD dashes but I don't know how far along in the process it is.
Will watch for the dash.

Hung Vu will not have rhd dashes available until well into next year.
Good opportunity to get in there first Robbie if you have the contacts to get rhd repro's fabricated here in the UK.

'240Z' dash is not a straight bolt-in proposition for a much later car, LHD or not.

Heater/vent system also needs to be considered, as does console match. Goes without saying that wiring is completely different, but presumably an LHD to RHD swap on a late model car will require quite a lot of custom wiring anyway.

Perhaps see if I can swap with a UK 260Z one or I will have to work out how to make it all work, I take it a centre console from a LHD 240Z would work.
