Mr Gaskin: per your request I just did a highly scientific finger test for you. The driver's side one has about a centimetre of thread sticking out of the nut and the passenger side one has about 1 thread.

Strangely the driver's side is twice as close.

Tim - very tempted mate given the consequences of a failure. Did they come back with a price for a group buy?

Also I'm wondering if it's cheaper in the long run to go for the combo ARBs and TCs at the same time. The only thing hat puts me off a little is reading hat the uprated ARBs add stresses to the mounting points on the chassis that it wasn't meant to take- anyone have any experience of problems with uprated ARBs?

Not wanting to be alarmist but everything would suggests to me that something at the front of your isn't straight.

can you measure from a chassis datum point? your front spoiler could be off, wings not sitting level etc.

That's a great point - the spoiler is a fibre glass one and it does look further back than it does on the other side. Also the screws holding her on aren't all looking linear - so it will be my first port of call. Also the panel fit does need more attention than the PO gave it.

Not sure where the datum points are or what measurements I should look for - are they in the FSM?

MaximG - I had the same thought. The car does drive dead straight with hands off the wheel and 100% well behaved under heavy braking. But you never know, so good to check these things. I have found many mechanical things on the car weren't bolted up correctly by the PO (also electrical, my sweet spot) so it wouldn't surprise me to find it's something simple.

Some of the things the PO had done were truly outstanding e.g. the washer bottle pump stopped working - I found a 50Amp(!!!!) fuse there. When I replaced it with something more sensible it popped again after a drive / usage. I found that at the bottom of the washer bottle he had left naked wires that were touching as I cornered. So I have been "auditing" all electricals and some of the mechanicals; finding lots of "entertaining" quick wins, such as the loose drop links I mentioned previously, brake shoes upside down, finger tight header nuts, live unused wires behind centre console left bare, missing bushes in throttle linkage / gear lever etc etc - the list is long and distinguished, like my Johnson (name that movie) ;) but all have been pretty easy to sort.

Anyway, going off topic now.

Just try and find a point that's easy to measure from....... there are some measurement points I think. I just can't remember!

With regard to tightening the compression rod nut, I thought you tightened it until you bottomed out on the metal sleeve inside the bush. This would mean that it was the specified length.

Sorry, no not yet Ali, I'll fire off another email today.

Hopefully get parts today, trying out the kit below this weekend. There's a place near me called liftofframps.co.uk where you can rent ramp space by the hour. Pretty neat. Plan is to fit the rod using old rubber bushes that came with the rod temporarily, drive it gently down to the ramp place and then fit the kit.

I read the same, and so fitted some of these:

Jon, any tips or recommendation on fitting these please mate?

I've seen these before and considered them but I'm now struggling to see exactly how they work and how much travel they will allow without placing bending forces on the compression rod.

My recollection is that the metal cup goes on the rod first, concave face towards the chassis, then the plastic hemisphere, then the chassis then the bush then the washer & nut.
The rod is a snug fit through the metal cup and the plastic hemisphere is located firmly against the chassis, but there's plenty of clearance through the plastic part, allowing the rod to pivot reasonably freely around a point somewhere in the middle of the bush.

I'll get a photo in the morning.

I'm not sure, Jon may know. It’s a bit of try and see for me ATM.

Great, thanks very much for this. Much appreciated. I want to crack on with it, but I'm struggling to get these delivered, Will post up as soon as I've got them.

I am just going to make my own adjustable rose jointed arms using the stock rods and some driftworks s13 rods.

Hybrid!

Made some progress and the car now ready to drive down to ramp hire place.:) Fitted one side with the kit using a secondhand rod, seems to fit nicely and wheel now pulled back and clearing wheel arch nicely:thumbs:

One question Jon (or indeed anyone who has these fitted). Did you fit the new nut directly after the large stock washer? The instructions make no mention on the original mid size washer marked below in the pic. It just states place the large washer then the new nut, followed by the original nut to act as a locking nut.

Seems to make sense to fit the mid size washer to spread the load over the large washer, although this does leave the locking nut a bit further off the rod tread as with the now two nuts, the last nut doesn't fully thread. Even without the washer the last/locking nut looks unlikely to fully seat on the rod thread.

Any thought please guys?

Hi Tim, I think I've got the extra washer on. On mine the 2nd nut is a couple of turns short of fully threaded too.

Lovely, thanks Jon. And thanks for pointing the kit out to me. Just come back from LiftOffRamps and a wee drive, both fitted and delighted with them. Car feels much better, although took it easy on the way home. Heading out later this afternoon to hit MK roundabouts, there was a little break shudder on occasion in the past that I felt was coming from the nearside at a guess (side the rod snapped) and have a feeling now gone. Have booked the car back on the ramps for next week, will give them a check over after a little thrashing.

Glad you're sorted Tim. Have you noticed the car roll more in the corners?

Yes, def a little roll. Not much, but noticeable. The ride is a lot smoother in general and over bumps etc. Driven for a good few hours now and I like it. Braking feels more positive, less to no vibration on hard braking and will be fitting some new PosiQuiet pads from Mr.F shortly.

I'm looking at one of Ali's suggestions. I'm getting more confident as time passes to try these sort of things out.

I can't find it on threads, did you upgrade the ARB?
