Silverstone Classic, is the ZClub attending officially?

No bog rolls in the bog when camping Pah

Always used to take my own roll with me when I was camping and always carried a few sheets In my pocket just in case the bogs provided ran out ( unused sheets before anyone asks) and even still do it when I attend any car show for a day or more even when not camping

But lets be honest the provision of toilets is a bit like Glamping to the older members

Bring back hole you used to have to dig in the ground the only trouble with that was you had to carry a spade as bog paper with you

And we all pine for the good old days PAH

I always have a toilet roll in the car mates - you never know where you'll have to stop or when.
Steve - they were called 'lats' when I was in the scouts, we dug 'em and we filled them in - gradually and then relaid the turfs cut off at the beginning and lef tthe site as we found it taking pride that it returned to the nature.

Where I was, there was a queue from 6AM to 2AM. Your site does look nicer Sean. Maybe I'll visit it next time, from my hotel. :)
You'd be welcome - others did that and came from other campsites to join us - after all - you pays yer money and takes yer choice.

Most of the shows that I attend are very expensive as they are all a long way down south, I was contemplateing going to the silverstone classic as the car will be good but at £90 for petrol £120 for 2 nights accomodation so entry fee was just way too much. I could almost go on a weeks holiday to Spain for that money.

I find it really expensive going to shows as due to the distance I always require accomodation and fuel etc is expensive, and I really don't think anyone realises how much these events cost to us here up north.

Organise one up north then Andy - I'll come up to you for a change. Or even if you don't organise it, just pick one of the Scottish shows and start a thread. That's what I did for the Leighton Hall thing which one year got 10 cars (clashed with LMC this year though).

Lack of enthusiasm is what eventually stops people organising events....

Leighton Hall was a nice event. I'd certainly be up for going again should the opportunity present itself. And I'd possibly be up for a longer drive up to your end of things Andy, should there be a good event to go to.

JK - the lack of enthusiasm thing resonates. See my comments on Tatton recently. I sent the form off this week, with the grand total of 5 participants, some of whom won't be there both days (including me potentially). I wouldn't be surprised if we don't actually get a stand. 12-15 years ago, the Z club stand would be rammed with 10-20 cars per day.

a) earlier on people didn't hve a forum upon which to chat and exchange - they had to physically go to a meeting.

b) there was an active parts-swapping/selling

c) people had 'more time'

Question : do people want static shows - park up, nosy around, eat cucumber sandwiches or do they want some entertainment....do they want to visit things - ie drive their cars in convoy with a meal together to satisfy the 'chat' need ?

I feel myself that static shows have gone stale......they wouldn't interest me today where they did when I first bought my car.

And lastly, how to make people aware of these meetings if they're not active on this forum ?

I had your comments in mind Richie, and I know I haven't been to either of the Tatton shows this year, which is a bit poor on my part, so apologies for that...!

Leighton hall is a great little venue and I will hopefully sort it for next year, although as I mentioned, one year I got 10 cars, but the last time I tried I got nothing at all and went on my own :(

And I do also agree a little with Sean that static shows can be stale , so maybe we should try to organise more local level meetings...?

Agree on the stale factor. Unless it's something like Donington or Oulton, or on the scale of Japfest etc., where a lot else is going on.

Back in the old days, we used to occasionally do local area runs out. I remember doing one from Manchester out to a show in Sheffield with something like 17 cars. Or another where Cheshire Plainz met with Heart of England in Castleton in the Derbyshire Peak. Convoy up there, pub lunch, convoy back. It would be good to try and do that kind of thing again.

There are a few of us North West and a few in Yorkshire too, and perhaps a few in the North East, so we should try and arrange something in the middle of us all - North Yorks perhaps, Yorkshire dales run out, something of that nature...?

I just noticed that the is a 'Retro Run' at the Silverstone Classic, or in other words a drive around the local roads round here, on route passing Broughton Castle, Upton House, Burton Dassett Country Park & Farnborough Hall for the princely sum of £85
Milk It, Milk It, Milk It!!!!!!!!
Hey what do you reckon they would say if you just followed the convoy of cars
Well I pays me road tax and all that. Oh no hang on a second I don't do I :D

If you want to show up on the following weekend I'll take you round the same route for a fiver! how's that! :D

Yes would like to do that!
Its just a time thing and picking a decent show etc.
There also is the weather up here which is ehmm unpredictable!!
I will get something arranged for next year!!

Firstly, meant to say 'pits' not 'puts'.

Secondly, just read the rest of this thread... Doesn't look like many people are attending so don't worry... I'll still probably be going though if anyone does know about any on track / in site parking........ Hopefully see one or two of you there

All being well & good I should be there with my Z. Saying that I took her into an auto electricians last Monday to get a few jobs done, phoned them up this morning to see how things were progressing and was told 'Busy, wasn't going to start on your car for another 2 or 3 weeks!'.... What the @£$%!!! I pointed out the car was going into the Silverstone Classic at the weekend and they said they would get it done in time so fingers crossed.

I've had plenty of that over the last couple of months before Le Mans! Seems to be running OK now though, albeit manifold overheating the triple carbs...

Will look out for you... where will you be parked? In circuit?
