side lights

Hi Guys Does anyone know if the front side light bulbs are supposed to go out when the headlights are switched on ? If so is it to reduce voltage through the switch? Is there a relay fitted or does all power run through the switch? I've just fitted new headlight units with 60\55w bulbs and am a little worried if they need to much power

Well it would be a good idea to supply them via relays anyway.

Surely the sidelights should stay on.

Standard setup is that it all goes through the switch and the sidelights stay on with the headlights.
Turning off the sidelights wouldn't save much....
