I run around with this and a yellow version on the back, my real number, totally illegal plate, police aren't bothered about a sad old man in his old motor.

The problem I have found is there are plenty of online plate makers but they only seem to do black and white/silver in the standard UK size. Was just going to ring a few and see what they can do.

I have a small rear plate. there's a picture in the gallery. Technically it's illegal coz it's black and silver on a '74 car, but the font size and spacing etc are legal. I've never been stopped over it and I just put yellow and white ones on for it's MOT

Looks good. What size is that exactly then? And where did you get it.

Guys I have read in the latest copy of the Newsletter of the Federation of Historic Vehicle Clubs that the DVLA are now linking the non-reflective plate date with the rolling 40 year Historic tax date. That seems unlikely to me because the date surely relates to when reflective plates were introduced. Anyway if it's true you heard it here first.

Used Tippers and can highly recommend them. They aren't the cheapest but quality is awesome and have fonts of varying sizes and can do bespoke sizes as well. I am assuming that you want metal plates and not plastic (acyrlic) units..

Think mine was Tippers too, seems to ring a bell, was at least 10 years ago. I'll check through the receipts and measure it tomorrow.

I rang Tippers and they were closed for a holiday week. Another supplier never even replied to an email enquiry (!). But Jepson's have done the business. They make custom sizes. Good service, very fast ... I ordered on Tuesday, they cut, pressed, sprayed and baked them, posted and they arrived well packed this morning. Will post a pic once I've fitted. For reference, my rear plate is 13 x 6.5 with 2.5 inch lettering. 13x7 would have worked too.

Yeah my plates were from Tippers but 19 years ago, time flies!. The outside dimension of mine is 12x7 with the inside border size 9x6. I had to cut a small notch out of the top of the plate for a snug fit but it's hidden by the number plate light.
