Serial Nissan owner thinking on 260Z 2+2

I am, do I break it and get another or fix it.... some bits are fine, no rust under the wiper valance, inner sills mainly OK. The front wings and doors OK etc
:(

I guess it's a case of what's cost effective and how much time and patience you have. I hear 2+2 panels aren't the easiest to find so that might mean it's easier to sell parts than buy them?

That's gutting after all that cost & effort. If you do decide to cut the losses and go for another one, don't let your work mate view it for you again. Sounds as though he didn't do a very good job the first time round. Are you sure you got the same car as the one you thought you bought? The bonnet colour changed so the rest of it could have done the same.

If its that bad, I bet you are wishing the container had fallen off the boat in the Atlantic. At least you would have had the insurance money.

It's not as bad as some, it's positively good in some places its the time to fix it. Yes the workmate has watched too much Fast and Loud...

That's poor mate, feel bad for you. Only you know what it stands you ... might be better to cut your losses and get another perhaps. These things can eat up the ££££ easily.

Saccyclone's your man for the next one.

Are you any good at welding? If the body is mainly rust free and most of the major stuff is underneath, then its repairable, but if your paying someone else, time wise its probably not worth it. Mine needed a lot done underneath and the rear roof area near the hinges needed repair, and that was 15 odd years ago when they were worth f*@k all.
Even now the cost of work and on going improvements and parts etc, probably still out ways the current value of the car, but i bought it to keep, £2000 in 1996! and have no intention of selling it. :D

If it was a RHD 2-seater it would probably be a no-brainer to repair it and even a RHD 2+2. However, as many people have pointed out, 2+2s are less regarded in the S30 world and then you throw in the LHD element and you then question whether its worth it in terms of value. Also, as Paul S said earlier, panels for a 2+2 are not easy to get hold of so there may be some bespoke fabrication needed which is more time & money. You could probably pick up another LHD 2+2 especially a 280Z from the US in better condition for less than you would spend on repairs to the one you have unless, as Toopy says, you are a dab hand at welding & bodywork.

Yes, it is repairable and I already have found 90% of the panels needed to fix it. It has P90 head on the L28 and 5speed box but they are the bits I don't need and they work well typical.... its perfect for somebody who can weld, I did learn to basically weld at Uni 30 years ago and have a garage but my wife would kill me if I spent every weekend in the garage. The car is to replace an expensive Porsche the longer I have it I have the Porsche cost. Swapping out to many cars are going to drive my wife mad with Typhoon damaged her car etc... the interior is OK needs seat covers and roof lining....

might try to sell the complete car first, why o why when I don't need it, it has a good engine!

Sorry to hear of your woes dude, I know how much you were looking forward to it! If you do decide to seperate it for any reason then drop me a message

I had an offer for the complete car, lower than I would like but not far off, I could just stick it in the garage and wait a bit... it's not as bad toopy's car above. decisions decisions
