Mr T, your car is not a million miles away from being done ... a few decent weekends and it would look so much closer to being there. Wiring, heater, dash etc. One job at a time ...

We are chalk and cheese then because I found the S2000 tiring - HAVE to rev the nuts off to get anywhere !

I'd bet rev for rev it makes the same or more power than the mx5. I think the fact they make 230 odd bhp at high revs means it can feel like its all 'up there', which is it. .

Nasty expensive rot boxes those Mazdas. What you want is an MR2 Roadster Mr Gaskin.

Ugly looking boxes that are heavier than my MX.

"Like most moderns, body rot is not a major concern, except rarely where past accident damage was poorly repaired: corrosion can still strike specific areas, but the major checkpoints are mechanical issues specific to contemporary engines, which can cause abrupt failure that is too costly to justify repair. It’s definitely worth investing in a good quality fault-code reader: failing lambda sensors may be an indication of pre-cat issues, the biggest worry."

Franky, I accept with ease that the S2000 makes more power.....but 140 in a light and well-balanced chassis is enough to have fun - I have no airco, no heated seats and have ordered a 4.1 torsen diff, bigger front brakes and anti-roll bar, a 6x speed box and a spare engine...all for under a grand : ie MX parts are cheap :)

I did that route and now back on old cars... yes I still have a modern car but it's hard to take away the interest in older cars with character

GTR is just too fast for our roads so you spend most of the time at 30% of what it can do

Have you seen the modern versions? that'd make a nice small car that you'd be able to play with in a small garage without loosing any money etc.

That's the version I would buy. I'm too old to get back on a motorbike after 40 years 'out of the saddle' but this might be an exciting compromise.

Not many for sale though.

Yeh, that was the problem with even my 370Z. I was paying to run a fast car whilst spending most of my time following renault Clios etc.

That's impressively light, anything under 1000kg is light this century.
Are you quoting from the MX5 fan club? I've seen many rotten mx5 and no rotten Mr2 roadsters, and I have seen quite a lot of them.
