Seatbelts

Hi guys,

I've seen a few bits on the forums about using Securing inertia belts but I'm getting a bit stuck on how to fit them.

One of my Z's has lapbelts, and the other is in pieces, so I don't know how it once looked.

I'm after a modern, safe upgrade to inertia belts and the best way to do it (preferably with pictures if anyone has any?)

I didn't like my original lap belts on my '72 since they were very worn out and the shoulder harnesses were missing. I decided to try some inertia belts. I found these on Ebay and they are the correct length. Click Here I did have to make extension brackets that bolt from the original threaded hole in the stock recess, that locate the new retractor higher since I doesn't fit in the stock recess. I do like having retracting harnesses. It was worth the price and the effort.

I’ve just installed the Securicon seat belts into mine using the original fitting points. Bolts were a faff but mechanic found suitable alternatives that worked. Faff is about setting up the dials on the mechanism so it releases easily

Which securon model did you use?

Could you take some pics of the install please? I'm flying blind as neither of my Zs has proper belts in :(

The nice part is all the factory mounting hole locations and bolts work. I think I added some washers and longer bolts to the rear mounts by the hatch so they would pivot freely without binding. Almost looks like original equipment.

Prefer systems that are designed to work without airbag if you can

Indeed torsion bar inside the system limits the stress on the belt in case of crash. Rate of torsion bar depends on the compromise between braking your body inertia to lower the intensity of crash on the dashboard and injures on your thorax due to belt.

In case of airbag, torsion bars are usually 450daN rated to let you land in the airbag which finishes to stop your beloved body.

In case of no airbag, rate is usually 600daN to avoid your head to approach the dashboard (even if dashboard is digital, the knock is not 😂) but causing more harms on the thorax


While saying that… crash protection by an old Z body is so poor that rate of seatbelts is probably not a prime criteria…

Hi all. Looking to replace the fixed seatbelts in my 260z which are mounted on the rear strut towers. I have to set the seat quite far back due to my… how can I put it..rather portly stature

Looking for some inertia belts and fittings that will attach to the rear strut towers as the captive nut is not there on my c pillars. Any suggestions?

I started without any fitted and my belts were in very poor condition so I just have the two ‘female’ mechanisms going spare

Hi Kieron,
good post on seat belts, and I'm glad I caught it as I'm going to be upgrading my original lap belts. Did you have any issues fitting these to the car on their original mounting points?
