Hi everyone, I know it’s late.... but.....
Been doing some digging regarding the resurgence and interest in ‘Samuri’. As being an interested party you would only expect.
The intellectual property rights to that name, in everything connected to and including (and I quote)
Vehicles; automobiles; sports cars; performance cars; passenger cars; competition cars; parts and fittings for all the aforesaid goods.
Is registered under the name of Michael Anderson and includes UK Trademark.
So my question is, have these rights been secured from him for the new company? The website?, Facebook etc?
I was only a police officer for 30 years! And was in the stolen car squad and involved with the fraud squad and I would suggest that unless these rights have been secured then this is a bit of a sticky wicket/civil/criminal offence, depending on circumstances. I trust due diligence has been done in this matter and I am flagging something up which has been dealt with. If so, my apologies.

Just saying!!!!!

Thank you for your concerns Al. Intellectual Property is a very specialized field and we are fortunate to be well served by subject matter experts in this field.

If you have any specific issues regarding this I will be happy to answer your queries if you would like to open a one to one conversation.

Best regards,

Ross.

Hi Ross, no issues on my part, it’s not my trademark!

Being a Sam owner I’m interested in the direction and future of these unique cars and, like many others I’m sure, looked up what is available through public records after the news of a re-launch of Samuri.

I was curious as to whether the trademark had been acquired by the new company and having some experience in this area I am aware of what a minefield it can be but if you have experts in place with regard to this matter then as I said, if I’m flagging something up which is being dealt with then you have my apologies.
Just don’t want to see trodden toes or burnt fingers.

Hmm, just read in depth the blurb on this site and am staggered at some of the claims made!
Restore UGH! It’s current owner has no plans to have that done at the moment and knows nothing of these gentlemen.
FFA and Big Sam to be in their “future showroom” again, according to their current owner, not happening. the lovely photos of exotic cars sold! Seen the same photos on reputable Lamborghini sites!!!!!
SAMURI as a trademark. Is currently owned by Michael Anderson and includes
Vehicles; automobiles; sports cars; performance cars; passenger cars; competition cars; parts and fittings for all the aforesaid goods.

Find this all a bit disturbing and detrimental to the history and value os Spike Anderson Samuri cars and would ask owners to be wary.

And for your info, trademark theft carries not only financial penalty but if prosecuted by trading standards and thereafter the police/CPS, a term of imprisonment.

A UK Trade Mark is infringed if one of the following circumstances apply:
  • Where an unauthorised third party uses a Mark that is identical to a registered Trade Mark in relation to identical goods and services. For the purposes of Trade Mark infringement, a Mark will be considered identical, even if minor modifications have been made, since changes would go unnoticed by the average consumer.
  • Where an unauthorised third party uses an identical registered Trade Mark on similar goods and services, or a similar Trade Mark on identical goods and services, so as to create a likelihood of confusion as to the origin of the goods or services, and/or an association being made between the two Trade Marks.
  • Where an unauthorised third party uses an identical or similar Trade Mark on goods or services which are not similar, such that it damages or takes unfair advantage of the reputation of the earlier Trade Mark.

Samuri owners beware of these infringements as they may very well effect the value of your car with your insurance company.

I think you're not going to get far, it looks totally like a 'scammers' website. Its not helping any owners as you say. there's enough smoke and mirrors as it stands.

Hi Al - are you then (by omission) discounting all those cars produced by Kevin Irons after Spike left ?

How does this place those cars more recently* produced by people in three different locations with Spikes' blessing ?

Finally, there seems no-one to stop any tribute**cars built - we can quote the latest MZR marvel, the car up on ebay with a cream interior and I know of at least one other which is here in France ?

Just don’t want to see trodden toes or burnt fingers

*maybe best then not to fling petrol around wearing big boots;)

**maybe this company will go that route to avoid any legal issues ?

Hi Sean
Just pointing out some glaring untruths. UGH not up for restoration by this “company”, FFA196L and Big Sam not appearing at their showroom anytime ever!
and as for Ross, don’t think he ever had any connection with Samuri Conversions whilst it was driven by Spike. Also, much of the history reproduced in their blurb is, frankly, well, I’ll let you guess!
Smoke and mirrors, mystery and myth have always stalked Samuri but this new “reborn” thing just smacks of trading off the back of someone else’s name and success (or otherwise)
Or else why not revive the Z Shed?
The last three were built for very specific reasons and Spike had his hands on all of them contrary to popular opinion.
One more race car, 75
One for Win who had never owned one, 76
And the last for himself so that he had owned the first and the last, 77
And still, the Trademark is owned by Spike.
And Franky, I agree, scammers website.

Hi Al.

I'd be interested to know what Spike did on them - some engine work, just tuning perhaps..an idea please ?

Personally, I have my own opinion on why the last three were built and all for the same reason since none of the three stayed very long in the hands of those for whom they were originally destined.

You make no reference to the tribute cars - is that 'off-topic' for you or you don't have an opinion either way ?

Cheers.

Why does the Samuri cars stir so much emotion here? Are they such an important part of the Z history in the UK?

If it weren't for this forum I would never have heard of them. Not saying that to belittle what they are, but I think they would be quite unknown to someone outside the UK?

As I understand it Sean is confirming that outside the UK they quite unknown.

Sean, in France do people prefer LHD or RHD cars?

Peter, have you ever seen any 'in period' road-tests of Samuri modified cars?
