Saggy spring?

Were you very thin when a kid?
Well, yes, I'm thin now I'll have you know! But that's not where it came from, it's a very long and convoluted origin story. Suffice to say I had a friend who loved giving people nicknames that made sense to him, and mine stuck.

So Steve your girth aside, ;) that table tells you that the US front springs have 1.49kg/mm of spring and Euro spec are likely 1.81kg/mm - a difference of close to 21% in spring rate.

I'm reading it as 2.18 front and 2.5 rear for Euro spec, am I reading it wrong?

Hang on, I've read on other threads that people are using BC coilovers with spring rates recommended for 'best balance of performance and comfort' that are, according to that table, double the stock rates. Can that be right?

You’re right - I misread the table
So it looks like our Euro spec stock springs would have been considered lowering springs by US standards, having a free length about 80mm shorter. That might explain why I've seen some UK owners complaining that Eibach springs didn't give them the drop they were expecting.

Precisely the reason I didn’t buy them - exactly what I read too.

Yes and if you buy US springs for a UK car they become coil-bound (as were on one of my cars).

And for those who like me have never come across that term before ....

“Take any coiled spring, for example one from a retractable ball point pen, squeeze it until all the "coils" are touching and it is "Coil bound" It will not compess further.”
