S13 / S14 gearbox - propshaft length

I think the best measurement would be overall from flange to end of slip joint. As people often change the uj style/size it alters the overall length.

I’ve just had my prop back this week for the same reason from Dave Mac props £129 inc pp
(Can’t give you a measurement as car is a series 1 so shorter.)
I think your best measuring your own .i gave them the distance from center of u/j to u/j of the fixed body of the prop.
Fitted up nice

It depends on model year of the car

haynes give lengths of factory shafts but there is mix-up in years in the book... so you have to check

565mm + shorten by 51mm in my case (2 seaters 72-78 except75)... will fit in September... hope it is ok :)

Just to add to this. I am having prop made by bailey propshafts and the measurement they require is from face of diff flange to gearbox oil seal face. They use this measurement to get the oil seal to be 20mm short of bottoming out on the slip joint. This allows for the engine/gearbox moving forward and back under braking/acceleration. I think on a factory zed this allowance is around 38mm. I would consider 20mm to be the absolute minimum so would probably move a bit closer to 38mm so maybe 25-28mm. The measurement I will give Bailey is 625mm.

By the way, I am having a new prop made because I wish to use a Subaru diff and retain its flange rather than swap it for the Datsun one.

That's a good idea as I was unsure what to torque it to when swapping mine, would not have to worry about it doing your way.

Hi John. Thanks for sharing the info. How much are Bailey quoting and did you supply them with each end ?

I am sending them nothing but the details of what I want. They should then have a record of the spec and parts so they can replicate for others (which they don’t currently have). The price quoted is £220 + vat and delivery. I’m ordering 2 off. Delivery is 7 days.

They supply the universal joint attaching to the diff ? That's cool. :)

Im doing exactly this on my car. I bought a Subaru prop so I dont have to swap the flanges from the diff...

Thats because I forgot to undo the flange when it was off the car and swap it over.... plus I dont have a spare flange from a Z diff as I have got rid of them all :D

You can pick subaru props up for peanuts too.

I originally thought of getting a subaru prop to modify but the price of a completely new one seams reasonable. I really dont like the idea of disturbing the subaru diff.
