Rota RBR wheels staggered .

Something to bear in mind is if you're running roll centre adjusters (also known as bump steer spacers) then 14 inch rims are not an option

Care to explain why:confused:

FWIW I have a two datsuns running RCA's/bump steer spacers and 14" alloys and have had no issues. One uses S130 struts and other uses struts very similar to S30 so I am intrigued why it's an issue on the s30?

Because the wheels won't go back on?

Perhaps there are different heights of RCAs available then, I tried two different sets of wheels and there was no way at all they were going to fit.

[EDIT] Oh wait, I'm guessing your wheels are less than 7 to 8 inches wide, in which case you shouldn't have any clearance issues. With wide wheels it's a problem...

I think it's a combination of using tall RCA's and positive offset wheels ? I don't we can generalise that wide wheels causes clearance issues as you can have a wide wheel with a negative offset that has lesser back space than a wheel that is less wider but with a high offset.

IIRC I have 1" RCA and 14x7j , 0 offset and these operate fine...I suspect if I went for a 1.5 or 2" RCA we may have clearance issues

I'm just put some 25mm RCA's on mine and I'm running 9 x 15's on the front but they have a ET20 offset and the RCA have a 25mm offset to, which prob helped

Morbias, I can make you some in the new year if your stuck, without the offset and thinner if you need to

Would you be up for making some disc bells to fit big discs under 14" wheels?

Well fair enough but its a well documented problem and something that definitely needs to be considered before rather than after buying wheels. Some wheels also have thicker rims so it's a combination of factors, no doubt.

And cheers Gary, but I'm happy with what I'm running at the moment :)
Out of interest, are you running camber plates to counteract the extra 20 mm?

Yes, I made some of those to, They bolt in the standard datsun mounts with no cutting and welding, bit like the BC ones,

From what I have measured roughly with my camber gauge, I have +- 4 degrees adjustment,

But I still need to take it to get all the alinement's done when I finsh it,

Franky Yes I will give any thing a go :)

Nice, bit of a pain to adjust though I'm guessing! You should consider designing and selling some shorter strut top mounts for the s30, I reckon there's probably a good market for it, especially in the US where more people seem unwilling to fit shorter stroke shocks. The tokico situation doesn't help, that's for sure, but I've read multiple threads on US boards where people have resorted to frankly dangerous methods in order to get a bit more travel!

You can just get in to adjust them through the stock hole with a ball nose allen key, It is close though, I didn't want to have to cut out any of the Datsun metal if I could help it,

Good idea on the shorter top mounts I could shorten these a bit with some tweaking , cant remember how thick the standard mount is of hand, I think mine are 70mm now,

Cheers

If you did these without the camber adjustment would they not be shorter ?
Nice work Gary !!!!!!

So it's not gonna be a straight forward job of just coilovers and maybe camber adjusters to fit any of these?

Depends how low you're planning to go tbh,the lower you go the more problems you will run into. The anti roll bars will start to foul on things too, I ended up cutting down and re threading the end links to bring them back to close to stock geometry. Of course, if you're going to lower the car more than about an inch then you will have to section the strut tubes for shorter shocks otherwise you'll have no suspension travel!

Another thing to think about is the width and offset of the front wheels in relation to surrounding components. If you have wide wheels with too much backspace then you reduce your turning circle because the tyre will foul on the compression rods.

As nice as these sit I just can't bring myself to put Rota wheels on my car :( It might seem snobby but if they are a copy of an original wheel that doesn't sit well with me!

I missed a genuine 16" set of Watanabe RS wheels a few months ago that he wanted £2,000 for though so I can see why people do it!

!

I can understand your sentiments;)..however I am still unclear what is the original wheel?

There are so many styles of the classic 8 spoke wheel...minilite, western wheels, enkei, RS watanabe, empi etc...who ripped who?

When Rota brought out the BM8 there were countless people smack talking them, complaining how they are blatant rip-offs of Hayashi Streets. Yes, they are blatant rip-offs of Hayashi Streets, but at the same time no-one seemed interested that Hayashi Streets are themselves blatant rip-offs of Campagnolo 40802s...

@jonbills; lol - Maybe it's just me but it seems to be quite a leap someone has made to say this was a depiction of the first wheeled vehicle! Looking at that it could be anything, first TV antenna perhaps!

ooooooh what snobbery lol (joking before you get your hangbags out lol)

I totally see where you're coming from but that's what makes modifying great. Subtle differences to make your car look different. LOL I say that but it's like fashion.

Everyone strives to look different but end up getting the same kinda stuff and looking similar to one another.

Anyhow a few years back, it's you wouldn't hear of people slapping on Rota's onto their cars but over time, people people accept the change and it becomes normal.

I used to frequent a very popular Type R forum (EP3) and was close to buying one back in 2004. The Filipino wheel company was getting more interest and people started buying their wheels because they looked good and were cheap. Proof of pudding proved why there were cheap with spokes snapping and wheels easily bending. I'm sure that their manufacturing process has vastly improved over time to present day?; A quick google check shows forum posts dates circa 2006- 2009.

I personally wouldn't do (go rota route) for reasons such as the above as I hope to do a few track days in mind. I do begrudge spanking that kinda of money wheel but tbh as I am a tight **** but will spend it because I want it to be a certain aspect or look a certain way.

Anyway Andre, this thread is useless without your pics mate, It'd be great to see some of your car with it's new metal!

Have a look at this site if you want confusion. Pic and choose a style that might suit your look lol.
