A,B,C = 3 Questions.

They are metric fine thread - that's it, the end of my knowledge.

Some are metric fine some are not,

They are all JAPANESE INDUSTRIAL STANDARD spec (JIS) if i remember correctly, so have 12mm and 14mm heads on but on bigger sizes they are normal size, 17mm, 19mm etc.

You could check them with a thread gauge as they come off to be sure on pitch,

Most of the bolts I have come across, certainly on the engine & mechanicals have a thread pitch of 1.25mm.

Agree with Atomman about head sizes although you can get the right size thread pitch & diameter from online suppliers if you are willing to accept different head sizes e.g. 13mm instead of 12mm.

You can also add 10mm heads on quite a few others such as the rocker cover bolts and some of the water pump bolts and these are widely available in most motor factors in varying lengths.

These are the proper JIS type bolts, these particular ones also including the captive washers, some only have one washer, some dont have any, pretty sure though that most on the car will have washers. Most are 1.25 thread pitch although i know the smaller M6 size are 1.0 thread pitch

Ideally you want a JIS screwdriver as well, a phillips will work but they tend to cam out and will damage the bolt head if you over tighten, or just use a socket/spanner instead, which i find better anyway.

After much searching online, I bought a load (bulk order, not cheap!) from Germany, although they were manufactured in Japan, its hard to get them in the UK unfortunately!

I have these on ebay at the moment

I find it best to get the originals zinc plated.
I throw it all in a tub and take it in to the platers.
Cheap are chips and comes back as new (no matter how rusty)

Hi, I've struggled to locate them in the UK, sure they're there though! Where in Germany did you go?

Hi, that looks ideal, where did you take them, also how much? you're fairly local so I'd use the same place.

I use Avon electro plating in Weston super mare,
They charged me £100 for everything bolts ,brackets ,bonnet hinges, heatsheilds etc etc
They put all the small stuff in a rotating drum if you want some bolts kept separate then they charge £30 for each drum.
So I guess if you just want a tin of bolts done it would be £30
Last time they where done within a week
