You know what Pete that is shocking, But it's not everybody that has your wealth of experience in finding parts for our old Datsuns ;).

Now you've shared your knowledge we can all benefit and save ourselves a fortune .

Caveat Emptor:rolleyes:

Mind you, saying that, have you seen how much 240z series 1 Ash tray/lighter surrounds go for??!! Didn't realise the hole in my dash was gonna be so pricey to fill!!
You are not alone mate!
The devil is always in the detail.
Many buyers fall in to this trap of buying an incomplete car and thinking they will pick up the missing parts cheap cos its just a cheap old Datsun later to find that many parts are really expensive and difficult to track down.

I too have bought a few bits from Reddat over the years but never again - he does take the absolute piss with his international shipping prices, and as the example pmac posted shows, the mark up on the stuff he gets from Courtesy Nissan! Courtesy are easy to deal with too - I bought my Nissan Motorsports manifold/header from them.

Oh, agreed. We'd priced up pretty much everything we knew we needed, saved a bit of money here and there when we realised we didn't need things, but I searched for fuse panel covers to find out they were quite affordable.. What we missed is there's a difference between pre/post 71 and hence a difference of $200!!

Still, everything else is coming to budget so it just digs into our contingency fund a little!

Good to hear you are making progress:D
Prices of parts worldwide have increased as availability is going down and collectability is increasing.

Aceman, I had a Bluebird sealed ignition barrel rekeyed many years ago by a locksmiths on Shirley High St in Southampton.

I'm not sure if the place is still around but I see your located in Hampshire and maybe you could look them up.:)

Yeah, progressing well. Going to try and take photos as we go for a project thread as always welcome to comments and suggestions. So far we've simply just stripped the interior (final few bits on the dash to remove before pulling but it just got too dark that evening!) and started prep work for rust proof painting inside.

Next is interior painting, then refitting of refurbished parts (vinyl, dash etc). While she's doing her embroidery (as I call it, vinyl restoration as others would) I've got the engine to pull to respray the bay and replace numerous components. Then it's on to wiring and rubbers before refitting and sending for MOT.. (Obviously a larger list than that but to summarise and all..)

Going to plan so far, bar the damp weather.. Roll on some sun soon!

Cheers - I'll have a gander through the yellow pages and see if I can find them! Many thanks!

Well this turned out to be easier than planned!

William Galliers (who I bought the car off) managed to decipher the stamped on code of the remainder of the lock set, and using that as a basis, our local locksmith (KBO in aldershot) cut a number of keys swapping letters for numbers etc, and on the 5th or 6th attempt, we now have a key that fits!!

Many thanks to all involved - has only cost me a tenner for 2 keys in all, plus some helpful fellow enthusiasts!

Cheers!
