Regulator issue?

Just started the car this evening, had been running it earlier in the day with no issues, and noticed that ammeter reading was now going up and down with the engine revs. The battery is fully charged, so it's not suddenly needing a big charge.

Would I be right in suspecting that the regulator has decided to stop working?

Could be Mike, you need to get a voltmeter out and measure batery voltage it should not be higher than 14.7 volts at higher revs.

I've had similar issues before, alternator can be reconditioned for around £50.

Well, I had an auto spark have a quick check at it all and he reckons that the battery might be a bit down on power, even though it is turning the engine over easily enough. So it's on the trickle charger to see if that helps.
