Registering an import that's non-roadworthy

so 23rd today, 9 working days they've had the form, still nothing. I'l bet 50p on it being another 10 working days?

50p  Make it £10 and I'll get interested.

I recently sent off applications for a couple of South African imports which would have been received by DVLA on 9th October - so I'm a couple of days ahead of you.
Still nothing back but I'll let you know ;).

Usually takes between 2/3 weeks for the first reply back.
Three scenarios;
If you are lucky a registration straight off :D
or
If not quite so lucky, an inspection request from SGS which is a formality assuming car is legitimate, no big deal
or
If your paperwork isn't in order for whatever reason the jobsworth decides (sometimes valid and sometimes not) a rejection and you have to start all over again

I'll bet£1 - I've got 3 kids to feed!

I bet I'll get your option 3, then option 2, so roughly 40 business days total :)

So as an update I had my paperwork returned.

1) I forgot to include copies of ID. So I’m an idiot.

2) they couldn’t scan my cheque as I’d crossed out one letter on it. So they're an idiot.

let’s call it even. Paperwork’s back there tomorrow.

V5 arrived today.......... I've a 1970 car, however the v5 says 1971 as that was the us registration doc.

they've put it as 01/01/71. its a 10/70 build.

DVLA prefer to use date of first registration rather than build date.
Most US State titles will only show the year of registration hence policy is to use 1st January if actual month is unknown.
At least yours is pretty accurate, it would have been first US registered early 71.

My car was an August '72 build so an L reg technically, but it came back as a K reg as they used Jan 1, 1972 as the date.

I think you can register with them that 1970 was the year of manufacture (if you can prove it), it just won't show on the V5.
I had to do this with mine to get the historic tax class in 2014 - their full records show it was made November '74 but the V5 shows 1st registered April 75 or so.

Mine was registered as a 73, when its build date is a 72.

It's been covered earlier in this thread, but it does seem to go from the american registration document, rather than the actual manufactured date.

Oh well *shrug*! A Z is a Z to me, and all of them are great!

I've had a chat to them on the phone, amazingly helpful, I can send a covering letter in, some evidence.......... see what happens?
