RB25 sleeper project

I had Pat from Hybrid Z make my sump, its actually pretty good apart from on track the baffling isn't adequate for my needs so I'm actually trying to find somewhere than can make me a new custom sump to my specs with a hardcore baffle setup.

Your old car is lovely, damn, I still want another Z, one just isn't enough.

I have asked Pat for a qoute but don't think his will workout any cheaper than a McKinney or Cx
Planning on lowering the engine into the car next week before it goes to paint with a view
To making up my own motor mounts and a sump.
Would be interested if anyone has done simulator on who's engine mounts they have used.

You want a genuine Nissan 200zr sump and oil pickup and your RB will drop straight into your Z
Bolts straight on and save all the messing !

I have one sat in my garage should anyone feel flush :D
Not cheap, but then no longer available I believe ?

Yeah I can imagine those being scarce on the ground

Did the 200 zr have a one off sump, or will any rb20 one work?
....
Ignore that question, bit of searching and it appears standard rb20/25 sumps are the same

Yes 200zr only as the other RB20/25 are frt bowl, so no use for a Z car

Big step forward
I decided a few weeks ago to buy Wyn's 200zr sump (front bowl) which has save me a ton of time.
This allowed me today to sit the rb25 engine and gearbox in the car and fabricated front and gearbox mountings. All in all a lot easier that I thought it would be
Also managed to work out the length the propshaft needs to be.

Any pictures of the engine mounts? or the sump for that matter.

I found this knocking around the workshop. Its been modified but not sure for what reason.

200zr and rb25 sumps look almost the same albeit the bowl is the other way round.
You can tell which sump you have buy looking down at the flange.
One end is straight the other end is bowed (banana shaped)
The straight end is gearbox end

So you want the bowl this end of the sump.

John looks very much from the photo you have the correct one
Have you got the pick up ?

Well there wasn't any oil in it Franky so I'd call it dry.

Not sure if I have a pickup. That may require more digging.

Are you placing the engine roughly where the l series went or pushing it back for handling?

I settled for as far back as possible so as the gear stick still remains with in the original
Apature.
Probably slightly further back than McKinney or Cx mounts would be.
I also ended up doing away with the gearbox mounting ears on the tunnel and making up
A completely new rear mount to body.
There really isn't enough clearance between the ears and the gearbox
The engine sits about 40mm of the bulkhead

Sounds good.

I tried to make use of the ears on both the 1jz and current 3uz but had no option than to cut them off. It's easy to just make a crossmember and bolt to the tunnel or floorpan.

Its not further back than the McKinney mounts, my engine is as far back as it can go, only 30mm from the bulkhead and my rear head drain is only about 1cm from the bulkhead.

With your McKinney mounts are you still retaining the original rear gearbox ears on the tunnel?
If so is there much clearance between the speedo drive and the tunnel mount bracket.
From photos they look as if they still have to be trimmed back a bit?

No, its not possible to retain the mounting ears, I even had to trim a section out of the double skinned area where they originally are mounted to in order for the speedo drive to clear.

It's been a few months but looks like I might actually get the car back from the body shop I a couple of weeks.
Called in today and they have her in base primmer waiting Blocking down prior to being primer filtered and painting.
