Dave,

Where are you putting your one battery ? I've two, one behind each seat.......(very light) !

Sean was thinking about behind the dash next to the heater blower
if not yes behind the passanger seat i remember having a look at your pictures it looks a good position.

Sean was it a good choice ? or did you think of a better site for it after ?

The original idea was to be in the tool-kit wells but size, time and effort decided elsewhere, besides, I can still hide away the knick-knacks whilst using the 'useless' space behind the seats !
Keeps the weight in the middle too.....

Just make sure you put it in a box or something if it's inside the cabin, something it won't short against either. Hate for it to explode or dump acid everywhere in an accident...

Good thinking Russ better safe than sorry do not want to turn up at a track day to be told that i can not run !!

Looks like a cool project - what sort of HP goal/turbo configuration are you planning on?

I'm from a skyline background myself so find this sort of stuff hugely interesting :) who are you talking to about the engine build up as there are some nasty pitfalls to be avoided!

I'm in the process of rebuilding my R33 GTSt engine at the moment, just an RB25 but I'm expecting in the region of 500 or so BHP when I'm done.

Hi Simon H

A chap called Mark Rayner (owner of a twin turbo 260z) is going to build the engine and one of the chaps that works with him worked at a well known Skyline Tuners so even before the project started we all had a chat over what to buy and what to avoid.

What have you done to yours RB25 engine ?
500bhp its going to be a beast !!!

Cool - it'd be well worth logging on to www.gtr.co.uk for lots of skyline tuning info, pay particular attention to your oil system - they are a notorious cause of failures in modded Rb26 engine and a bad oil system can kill an engine very quickly if you use the car in anger. There are a fair few people over there that would be interested in what you are doing.

As for my engine my aim is for a solid reliable 500bhp that I can use as a daily driver. To that aim I have forged pistons, rods, extended and baffled sump, N1 oil and water pumps, uprated head gasket, lightly ported head (standard GTST head is good for upto about 700bhp so no real need to do anything with it.) Balanced crank, lightend flywheel, paddle clutch, HKS exhaust manifold, HKS GT3037 turbo, RIPS side mount inlet plenum, FMIC, induction kit, HKS 4" down pipe mated to a veilside 4" exhaust, 600cc injectors, HKS fuel pump and Apexi Power FC ECU.

My whole spec (apart from the injectors and Turbo) should support in the region of 700bhp but even with the weight of the Skyline I think that would make it mostly unusable on the road.

but anyway this thread is about your project :) are you going for single turbo or staying with twins?

Sorry for thread hijack but have either of you bumped into much on building NA skyline engines? (the RB30 didn't make good power by itself, I've not found much info in Aus either).

Look forward to the finished projects though guys!

Simon the aim this year to to build a strong bottom end that we can add to at a later date would love to do a big single turbo conversion as was talked about when we first started but will use the standard twin turbo set up to get the ball rolling am now trying to get it up and running for the Silverstone meeting but i have a list as long as my arm of things to do and buy.

Like all good ideas it take much more time and much more money than you always think but things are starting to pull together my sump will arrive tomorrow so we can start cutting that up to make it all fit.

I have also invested in a N1 oil and water pump so they will hopefully keep thing moving

Have been looking at the GTR site and the other Skyline ones as you can pick up lots of good info.

Make sure you baffle it if your having to make it fit, and if you have room some extra capacity never hurt :)

Big singles look nice but really need some extra CC's to get them moving otherwise can be horribly laggy.

I'll look forward to the next set of pics :D

Russ when I was looking at the RB route I had serious conversations with both Thor and RB Motorsport who both thought that a normally aspirated RB30 using an RB25 head would be perfectly feasible......why not :conf2: its an internal combustion engine, you've just got to get the compression right....along with a fuel delivery system and then get then to a state of tune without the aid of a spinny thing and a boost knob.

Sump and oil pick are now here thanks to Mr F

Now the fun starts sump & oil pick up to be altered to allow the oil pipe work to the rear the block (Z) not front (skyline) so the oil pick up pipe will have to be made longer to reach.

I think you are definitely doing the right thing, when I got my car, I was all up for going big single and going straight for 500hp, but after driving it first, I changed my mind.. Having 330hp (at the hubs) in a 240z is a challenge, and i'm sure you'll have even more than that. It still feels quick enough at the moment. I'm currently trying to increase response, and the little ceramic turbos do work pretty well in that respect.

Definitely get used to the stock turbos first, and then see what you think!

High 300's low 400's is quite attainable with the standard setup and should make for a very responsive car considering the light weight of the 240.

Some pictures of the Twin Turbos set up have given them a quick clean up with WD40 to get the outside crap off and both have a Turbo Technics labels on them each serial number ends 1X and 2X so both have been redone at the same time.

I have been incontact with Turbo Technics to find out when and what was done and am waiting for them to get back to me.

So to find out that they have been rebuilt/upgraded at some time is a result :)
