Have you all noticed the last question on 28.11.05, looks like someone else disagrees with sweeping statements of the cars former provenance.
interesting as the guy who asked the last question signed himself as Will Galliers.
he then asked what the guy would sell the car for

i have just found this on the internet.......

http://www.sportscarmarket.com/profiles/2006/January/Race/index.html

which might be of interest to you all about this car as it shows quite clearly that it is not a ex works rally car and was originally owned by a greek fish and chip shop owner:p unless it is wrong but i think it does shed a bit more light on the car and it still has a fairly interesting history.

No - the sportscarmarket.com article is just continuing the mistake originally made in the Bonhams auction catalogue.....

A photograph of 'PTD' was used in the 'LAL' lot number description, and a photograph of 'LAL' was used in the 'PTD' lot number description.

The sportscar.com article is talking about 'LAL' - but is using the picture of 'PTD', just like Bonhams did.

'PTD' was the car in the eBay auction ( the subject of this thread ), not 'LAL'........

Why 'LAL' was 'dolled up' as a faux ex-Works car is another conversation altogether....... ;)

Lol
Thanks for Greek lesson George.

Still, the question begs.
Why still list the ad 8 years later with the wrong car AGAIN??
The picture isn't the car listed for sale.

Dodgy.com if you ask me.

perhaps it isn't as bad a deal as before what with current prices and the bits it has bolted onto it.

Just to clarify:

This thread was originally about a different car. That car - sold as an ex-Works rally car with the chassis number 'HS30-00026', but actually a stock factory 1970 Fairlady Z-L 'shell with a conglomeration of ex-Works parts attached to it - now resides in New Zealand, and has been there for several years.

The Car and Classic ad is using the blurb from the original Bonhams / Goodwood F.O.S. auction of the 'Arthur Carter Collection' for the car that's now in NZ, but the photos show the other car from the Bonhams auction. Bonhams accidentally switched the photos of the cars for the auction catalogue, and the vendor ( if indeed there is a car for sale........ ) is compounding the mistake. He can't be selling the car that's in NZ, so he must be ( if the ad is genuine.... ) selling the other car.

As I've said before, Caveat Emptor......

Ah, now I understand. What a total mess! Amazing really that (if there actually is a car being sold) the owner is apparantly oblivious.

This is a great thread but I'm completely lost

Basically there's more double crossing than a columbo double bill!
(Crumbs a double double in one sentence, not cool).

In a nutshell.
Two 'works wannabes' got mixed up on the auction catalogue pages back in the groovey early 2000's.
Now ones come back up for sale and is still seemingly not knowing its birth parents in the trilogy era of Bourne identity!!
I.e Found itself in a Europeon city, but has no memory and trying to find its own DNA!!

Capiche ????

slightly off topic ....Ahh auction houses, aren't they great....lauded as fountains of knowledge, permission to say @%"@...

...RM Auctions have also recently sold one of the few 2000GTs and again referred to Goertz¹s influence in their generally meticulously researched notes

from correspondence elsewhere to me...

back to topic

The original auction catalogue for Bonhams, showing both cars complete with the picture swap is still on-line and can be viewed here if anyone is interested.

Bonhams 1793 : Sports, Competition & Collectors' Motor Cars, F1 Memorabilia, Automobilia & Models

LAL went to New Zealand as Alan mentioned, but do we (anyone?) know who bought the other car back in 2005 and how it ended up in Greece, that's if it is indeed in Greece and the same car and actually for sale?

Also why would someone selling a particular car use library shots the wrong car taken from an old incorrect auction catalogue, I'm getting rhetorical now, 'cos I know the answer to that :D

I spoke at length with the guy selling the car, he sent me many pictures of the car, which looked like it had been sat in storage for a very long time, also provided close up shot of the vin which identifies the car as LAL, a deposit has been taken and is being sold to a UK buyer.

Hope it gets used from now on.

I always thought it was a reasonable buy and I gather from the 'posts' that so did others on here. It was just not described 100% accurately as far as I could understand and if we didn't have Albrecht we might not be any the wiser.

I don't like the rear arches.

No, 'LAL' didn't go to New Zealand. The other car from the Bonhams auction ( the Fairlady with the 'PTD' identity attached to it ) went to New Zealand.

People are still getting the two cars, and the two different scenarios, mixed up.
