Wow, that article has blown my mind. I pretty much always thought coolant was coolant. Not sure I am any further forward on what I should go buy on Amazon or at Halfords.

You want this https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/triple-qx-blue-ready-mixed-antifreeze-coolant-5ltr-523770501

and not any of these https://www.eurocarparts.com/red-antifreeze

Blue, in the past also greenish for our older engines, red, pink, orange, purple, for modern stuff from approx 90's onwards.

Also, forgot to add, use de-ionized water if using the concentrate, if you live in a soft water area you might be ok with tap.

Or just use the ready mixed stuff, slightly more cost, but it's made with the de-ionized water you ideally want to be using.

Thanks guys. Last question. Just received the Mishimoto radiator. At the bottom, there are two holes with screw caps. Can’t recall any items on my radiator that actually fit onto those. You’ll see in the picture.

They are for coolant pipes for auto gearboxes I think. Not needed unless you have an auto box. There should also be a drain plug.

They're for auto gearbox cars. It's a little built in oil cooler.

Just seems odd that it doesn’t come with blanking nuts to seal these holes if they are unused. I guess means I have to use parts from my old radiator which seems really odd.

No you can just leave them open. Your old rad probably doesn't have anything that would fit anyway. (unless it's an auto!)

I didn’t realise it was a separate compartment. I have this rad and jubilee clipped a rubber hose to the two threaded stubs as I thought the water would come out! I couldn’t find a blanking nut as they were a tapered thread and emailing mishimoto didn’t get a response. I will take the hose off now!

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one puzzling over that.

I have one of these rads in the Sam. I did wonder if they could be used as an oil cooler?

Hi Jon, did you mean water pressure? Is it a cavity or just a 'heat exchange pipe' ?
No, I meant oil pressure. I don't really know how they're constructed, but in my imagination it's a coiled pipe in the cooled water kind of heat exchanger.

I assume it just runs the auto trans fluid through there from the factory. My first thought was also if you could re-purpose that as an oil cooler for the engine oil...? Maybe not as it would be too hot and/or pressurised?
