I purchased a new SKF 13978 oil seal from Rockauto but when I fitted it today it literally just slid in without giving much resistance at all. Now the manual says to use an oil seal drift so there should be some resistance when installing it obviusly to ensure that there is a good seal so I'm a bit concerned. I've double checked all the part numbers and this seems to be the right one. Has any one else experienced this issue - any advise please?

R180 Differential Pinion Oil Seal Issue

Yes defo is R180. I decided to proceed and fit the companion flange and fully torqued the pinion nut as specified in the manual this morning. I then removed both and the oil seal appears to be a tight fit now - I certainly can't pull it out using my fingers and I dont want to use an oil seal removal tool to test the resistance in case I damage it. So I'm wondering what to do now - leave it in and take a chance or replace it? If I fill the differential with oil on the bench and it does not leak will it be ok or does it need to be run in the car to be certain?
