Quick question about the 280z. It appears to be 300kg heavier than a 240z (Wikipedia info) . Why is this and is it something that can be sorted? I can imagine those big bumpers fitted to the 280 are quite heavy?

Yep - drop the bumpers but there is more to the weight gain than that - hardly important though if you're gonna +600bhp the bitch !

One of the things that really bugs me is people who are to lazy to check what they have typed and just rely on the spellchecker or is that just an echo I hear:rolleyes::devil:

Spam !

So lose 20kgs in diet, though maybe you're at the limit, threw out those seats for c/f, de-trim the car....

I had typed the above and copy/pasted some, recorrected and forgot the rest....sorry.

Though sometimes the finger is too fast to allow thoughts from the brain through, which then threw out the mistake of when to throw out the seats:rolleyes:

Hi Dave, I'm from Chesterfield originally, my family are still there, I'm a Notts lad now and have recently imported a '72 240Z from America, if you need any info in importing drop me your number and I'll be happy to have a chat, cheers

You would struggle to loose 300kg from a 280z. I believe a lot of this is in the structure of the car. Bumpers may save you 5kg if you swap them for 240z one's. Strip the car of all non essensials, carpets, heater, passenger seat, dash, door cars, and replace bonnet, tailgate, doors with fiberglass. All glass with Perspex and your probably still not at 300kg. I believe Terry's orange car is around 100kg's less than my full fat late 240 and his is a light weight early shell.

Its easier to leave everything in place and adjust your boost for another 200hp.

All true except fit f/g bumpers for the look and you save a little more, ally wheels and brake calipers.....it all helps.

But pre-'73 Zs are always gonna be lighter.;)

At last weigh in my 73 240 was 1010kg minus driver and 1/4 tank of fuel (1kg / litre) and was partially lightened with some lightweight panels (bonnet, tailgate, CF bumpers, CF seats, lightweight battery etc but bigger wheels and tyres and an R200 weigh quite a bit).

Since then we have taken everything superfluous out

Heater fan
Heater matrix
Carpets
Heater controls
Sound matting
Headlining
Diamond vinyl
Swapped some glass (for Perspex)
Swapped old fuel tank (for an alloy one)
Removed pine air freshener
Etc Etc....probably around 30 kilos of stuff

But put in a half cage at around 20Kg

So I would expect it to be just short of a 1000 Kg (minus driver)

But be warned at that, it is ultra-stripped out and not a car you would want to take long journeys in.
