First test on track
Well, as promised, I turned up on track in my beasty V8. Having gone through all the options open to me in terms of reducing the sound eminating from the back of my car, I decided I liked the current sound too much and thought I'd risk it. Friends of mine were on the day with their Caterhams, TVR and M5 so I was sure to have a good drive in a car of some shape or form.
I turned up to Keevil Circuit in North Wiltshire to be confronted with 45 cars, 37 of which were Caterhams. Cripes, looked like I had my work cut out. First things first, I had to pass the sound test, a rather restrictive 100db at 4500 rpm. As I raised the revs past 3,000, it really started to bellow. "Cripes that's loud" was the comment of the tester. This wasn't looking good. As it passed 3500, the bellow turrned to howl. 4500 and up goes the finger for starting the measurement..........
98.6!!!!! Skin of my teeth.
This was somewhat helped by the fact that the Datsun rev counter reads 4500 whilst the TVR engine is probably only doing 3500. Shhhhhh!
Next thing was to dial in the adjustable suspension from fast road to full race and what a difference it makes, the car corners so flat.
Some pictures of the car on the day can be seen here:

Sadly the photographer hadn't the education to know that mine was in fact a 240z rather than a 280z. It went very well around the track. A bit of understeer in the tight corners (Most likely due to low tread on the front nearside tyre) and then the LSD kicks in allowing a very tidy pick up towards the apex. Feed in the power and off you belt up the next straight. Give it the whole pedal at the apex though and you can undertake glorious extended powerslides, keeping the power nailed until the back comes back into line.
The Caterhams were, of course, all over me in the corners but up the straights I soon pulled them in. But eerrrrm, let's not go into braking! The brakes certainly need some braided hosing and some race fluid (Next project)and I'm seriously thinking of going all out and buying a whole new set-up.
The car certainly drew a lot of attention all day with all manner of suggestions as to what the car was and what was powering it. Bonus of the day, was a very nice Z club member who had come all the way to the track day just to see the car. He has a V8 Z too (3.9) and had some useful suggestions on set-up. If you're on the forum, many thanks and hope you enjoyed seeing it on track.
