with all this newness in your car, aren't you afraid it'll have no...'soul' ? I understand about replacing worn out/broken bits but are you going to keep some oldness in the car or replace everything ?
The nice thing about older cars is that 'oldness'... no ?
This is probably the most sensible comment on a project such as mine that I have heard so far and one that has caused me days and days, weeks even of deliberation.
I absolutely agree that as a classic car one of the nicest things is the "patina", the feel of age and worldliness, however, this will be so far from the classic variant that it doesn't really matter. A true classic car man would not give my Frankenstein garage space because it is so wildly removed from a pristine "original" car.
Putting a V8 in a Z will not change it's character so much that it is no longer Z-like but changing everything, suspension, brakes, shell, exhausts etc etc for up to date state of the art ones will. I am expecting the car to drive with a Z flavour but to be more like a modern performance car, the soul will come from it's uniqueness and performance characteristics.
If I can, I would like everything possible to be brand new, that way with a total rebuild, zinc plating and brand new everything it should last me for the rest of my life, so saying, the L Series car which will be next will be very different.

Its your car,though.................
Indeed it is DJ. It would be quite wrong in my opinion to build a car based on what other people think the car should be. It is highly likely that my project ideas will be flawed, something won't work or I will need to work with Laurence to revisit and redo bits that I spec'd up badly....but.... at least I am being true to myself following my own vision and dream.
Trying something new, different or controversial will always attract criticism or as you put it make people "ill, sick and distraught", however, where would we be without people trying new or controversial things ?
If I don't like the colour it will get stripped and repainted.....simple.
