Potential for crossed wires here. You seem to be asking about original UK market cars, but some of the responses to your questions are including North American market cars.

Completely different dealer and market situations, and a lot of differences in the cars themselves. It's very much worth making the distinction when you ask the questions.

Apologies, the confusion was my fault. I have no idea what the dealer options were when the cars were on sale over here at your local Datsun dealer. Force of habit had me quoting what I thought was the norm in North America, where the slots and air con were just two of the most common dealer-offered options at the time.

I can't think that there are (m)any original UK cars with air con.

As Alan has covered before on many occasions, the dealer option topic often gets very messy and suffers blurred market distinctions based on the very US-centric dialog that dominates the internet about these cars.

The one country that had a genuine, advanced, official option range was Japan - one that mirrored the variants available there on the cars (e.g. at one point there were 7 distinct models available there - Fairlady Z, Fairlady 240Z-L, 240ZG, etc., etc., - compared to the one available here, or the [very different] one available in the US etc.).

In the US, the kind of things you see added on these cars in period, possibly from new, such as slot mags, side protection trim strips, bumper accessories, etc., were aftermarket pieces that dealers sold. For example, see the Amco ad below with pics of some of the add-ons they offered that often turn up on US cars. I've seen a few of these bits on imports.

As for the UK, Zs were no different from many other in-period classics that experienced a swap to Wolfrace slot mags as an aftermarket thing. Same with Webasto sunroofs or the occasional vinyl roof, etc. But all that stuff was not something specified by Nissan.

red baron on this forum worked for a UK Datsun dealer in period and used to work on these cars as they arrived to them from the manufacturer. I've had a couple of interesting conversations with him about how they came packaged and what they came with.

Portugal supplied their cars with mag wheels, light covers and (I think) front wing mirrors) - none of these were options normally available within Europe I believe.

Those in the know haven't scraped the surface yet of this subject!

So, do I read it right that there were in fact NO dealer-only options available in the UK when the cars were purchased new back in the day?

Values are decided on what the buyer wants to pay.
I have a uk registered 1972 240z which is all original no major restoration and no alteration with only the battery and coil being changed.
It is basically rust free and in excellent condition and 15 years ago I was offered £25,000 for it. I saw the same person a week or two ago and he still offered me the same price which miffed me off slightly but it is not for sale.

You wouldn't be the only one Richard. This site isn't very friendly when it comes to adding pics. I'm sure Steve Burns or one of the other admin will give you a hand ;)
If not just add them as an attachment. That seems to be the way most of us do it.

Can anyone give me a simple version for dummies of how to put my photos on this site please.

This is what I do:

Open a post in a Thread or Reply to one.

Type some text.

Click on the paperclip icon (near the white smiley face).

Attach a pic from my computer.

Load the picture (it may take a minute). It will appear as filename at bottom of attachment box.

Close the box. (you will not see pic yet)

Click submit reply.

Once it's 'posted' someone (Steve) may change the file-size so it can be viewed without 'clicking on the picture.

Good Luck.

ps don't try to load lots of pics, just one at a time to start with.

Note that you must click on the 'Reply' button to the bottom left of the page or on the 'Quote' button to the bottom right of each reply. You can't use the Quick Reply function to insert photos the above way!

Also, you can click 'Preview Post' to check if your pic(s) have uploaded properly.

Nice car, Richard. Thumbs up from me.

UK registration date looks quite late compared to likely 1971 production date (judging by console layout etc). Was it hanging around at the dealer for a while, or did it turn up late from Japan?

Could add the wheels and wing mirrors to the list, but It looks like a nice honest car. Interior in particular looks much cherished.
