Poly Bushes

Has anyone had any experience of machining or turning a poly bush?

I want to replace the bushes on the rear subframe of my 280ZX with poly bushes to firm up its rear end a bit more.

These are no longer obtainable for the 280ZX, but the Z31 has a similar set up and there is a poly bush set available. Unfortunately the bushes are a bigger diameter and would need turning down some how, maybe on a lathe?

Anyone tried doing this with polyurethane?

The other option is to have a set made but that’s quite expensive

Yes you can turn them down pretty easily.

The alternative may be to machine the metal bits that they fit into.

Hi Paul.

Thoses are the standard rubber ones I want to replace. Ive gone through one set already, when under load they clunk. I wanted to replace them with poly ones. I’ve got hold of the Z31 set but just need to ‘adjust‘ them as they are a bit too large.

As it’s possible to turn them down in diameter ( thanks Dan ) I’ll have to find a friendly machine shop as I don’t have access to a lathe anymore.
