The person who bid for him tells me he buys and sells zeds. Not the old man who wants to relive his youth with an 260 again that he told me.

I don't think so. Spoke to the buyer again, who is in France, and we are in negotiations. All very amicable.

It's all become a little more complicate as another car has become involved. Not my suggestion but we'll see how it pans out.

Gutted for you, but it does show what a good man you are. You win some you lose some.

The moral of the story is; reserve price or classified ad with a buy it now price required
(alternatively, start the sale at the price that covers your costs).

This car was worth 10K all day long. Those that are buying the rot boxes will end up paying 2 or 3 times more then they paid for the vehicle in restoration costs...

Before anyone says - the market sets the price, I think John's been very unfortunate with the number of people who actually bid on the sale, if it was run on another day the outcome could have been vastly different.

Yep. As you say, you win some you lose some. I wont dwell on it or lose sleep over it, just move on.

Ooh, the intrigue !;)

Could be barking up the wrong tree but I reckon buyer has a holiday home in Normandy where he has two other manual Zs one of which he wants to swap back in the deal ? He can only drive automatics now so JMDs orange Auto 260 is ideal for him. Small Z world ;)

Nothing complicated about my offer. You could have been counting all the cash this afternoon if you had accepted it.
Offer still there.£7500 ....no ifs no buts.

The moral of the story is;

the moral of the story is the seller has allowed the buyer to break the terms and conditions of the sale which is a fatal error as it has put the buyer in control so they can dick about and try and px another car into the deal which defeats the whole purpose of an auction, which is to get a quick clean cash sale and be paid at the end of the auction.

Just imagine going to Bonhams.... placing a winning bid.on a Ferrari.... then going up to the auctioneer and saying " can you take my Mondeo in PX against the Ferrari I have bid on and wait ill I bring the Mondeo over from Belgium???

You should have bid £7500 Pete.....

Well yes and no.
I dont really want the car and I have work lined up at my retired pace till spring 2016..
So I didnt bother bidding.
At the price it finished at I was interested and when I saw what was happening I made an offer. I always have money to invest in quality parts or cars at the right price and in my world cash is king.
Thats how i acquired my rental properties. Cash offer. 14 day completion. No surveys neeeded 15 minute viewing and Im decided.
With this car there was no need to view as the seller is a known and trusted entity.
Its what I do.
If I dont get this then Im ready for the next occasion.
In fact Im ringing someone else tomorro about a very cheap non Z that is local as needs to go this week.

Just to add to this, I've been watching the orange one too and was suprised where it ended. I suspect the auto box might be the killer.

It ended up around my budget level which suprised me.

If a deal hasn't yet been done with the other 2 parties then there might be some interest here to at the level the auction concluded at.

No, it didn't.

I've UK registered it now and with the blue one still not fixed, I get to drive the orange one around as much as I can. I guess it will come up for sale again at some point but with it currently being my only road going zed I may as well enjoy it.

At the right money most things are for sale. Putting a price on it is difficult and although I would have continued with the sale at £7350, that was only because I felt it was the right thing to do. I would not accept that for it now so any offers would need to be above that.
