so rather than sit and rant would it of not been better to respond with the question I first posed?:conf2:

Firstly I dont rant...yet another case of reading things into posts that dont exist (dont worry your not the first and wont be the last) In fact I have been surprisingly calm when typing all of my replies to you Paul......no small feat given the circumstances:D .

Secondly the question you first posed was

Have you noticed that the valve guides no longer pretude into the exhaust/inlet area?

Sorry cant answer that and if I could, you would only ignore it along with everthing else I have posted.
As for sitting on things, please answer me this! why, when I have gone to all the trouble of
1. Researching what has been done before
2. Researching what needs to be done
3. Researching how to do it
4. Getting the funds
5. Buying that componants
6. Getting it done
7. Putting it right after getting it wrong
8. Fixing it after it broke
9. Buying a new one after it broke again
10. Finding out that the new one was the wrong one in the first place and having one a proper one made
11. Umpteen rolling road sessions
12. Turning up to the POD on every occasion possible
13. Learning to drag race

Should I tell everyone what I have learned....well if you notice, I have....I have told you exactly what I have done to my engine in numerous post, I have even PM'd you the spec, I have even told you that I contacted Steve Adams. In fact, only recently I was critisised for telling people things and accused of godlike aspirations....just cant win either way.

As has been suggested, if you think that a carbed car can come along and reclaim the record....(I think your right)... bring it on, go build one or go buy one, whatever I dont care, (if you remember I even offered a monetary prize) all you have to do is read one book its all in there, but you had better be sure to do your homework, cos I have at least the next 2 years of development planned out....The Japanese and Americans are putting road legal NA cars into the mid 12's so we need to as well.

you have done extreemly well
Thanks:conf2:

Why not settle the debate by building a 3.1 stroker, get it set up and have a crack at the record ? I can quite easily see how "oldy worldy technology" could reclaim the record ....if.....and only if someone put as much time and effort in as Steve has. It's not just about bolting bits on.

Someone go after the record ....... after all, it's easy

Who wants to buy a steel crakshaft and all the bits necessary to make a 300bhp 3.1 on carbs ?

Motorpsort is also about power versus £ - you try to get the most power from your budget, hence turbos ! Getting that last 50bhp out of a N/A engine is an enormous task !

Hat off to those who keep pushing the boundaries of what is possible - as stated, if Amercia and Japan can do it...........

I did before I decided to stick with just one car, the V8 ....... bought some top stuff from The Count but unfortunately had to sell it because it would not fit inside my LS2....

Laurence is now the proud owner of Kameari 89mm pistons, Kameari rods and a superb LD28 crankshaft. The plan was always to sell the crank and go steel but I will not be going that way now. The new shell it was going into has also gone.

This setup should be good for 300+ BHP if set and tuned properly.

Instead of Skiddy bashing I would love to see someone actually build a triple carbed engine and engage in true motorsport.

Had I have carried on,then I would have gone after his record, in a friendly, clubman, competitive manner. Had I have succeeded he would have shaken my hand, gone back to his garden shed and not resurfaced until he could take it back.

That to me is motorsport .... gentlemanly co-opetition if you like.

I would love to see the guys who held the record for so long come out of the woodwork and fight to take it back..... with carbs ..... to prove their point and provide top motorsport entertainment.

Hi SKiddell,
My set-up has changed a little bit within the last 3/4 weeks, and as yet not finalized, and going to be kept under wraps for now. As usual, as far as I am aware, I am going to try something different/diversifying again. The cam that is in my cylinder head will probably be used, which is : at 0.50", duration is 226 degrees and the lift is .487. I am still going to use carbs though. I'll leave it there....

Cheers
Ian

Ha, sly fox you indeed are

You mentioned that you were getting it built professionally, the results and workmanship should be interesting to see and could yield a potential source for the people who will no doubt follow in your footsteps.

I will watch with baited breath as it should be interesting when it comes out....good luck with it and keep us posted.

Indeed - the comment was not meant as a challenge to your record as I am not in the L Series Brigade, it was meant more to show that you would thrive on the competition and that it is possible if someone wants to do the due dilligence to get the engine right.

The other thing missing from this whole debate is that it is not just about engines....there is the whole learning to drag race thing to consider..... anyone who seriously wants to take a pop at these records needs to visit Mr Miyagi for a long long long time.....

One thing that has been overlooked so far, is the consistency of both cars in question.

Adams' car wasn't pulling regular 13.7's, probably wasn't even pulling regular 13's.
Skiddell's car will pull mid-13's all day long.

Now you can see how they compare.

When Steve Adams set that record both me and him were pulling late 13 second quarters all day at the pod

What I meant was all day every day, not just all day on one particular day – but hey, it’s those particular days when conditions are just perfect and records are broken.

Whether it was a matter of performance or a matter of circumstance, neither car ever produced the goods again.
