OK so this fact from Fourways is wrong. I'm glad about that, now I just have to sort mine out :D
You would have thought they know about these things.

You would have thought they know about these things.

You honestly think that's likely in this instance?

I think it's far more likely that they were talking about a particular brand/model of electronic ignition system (such as one of the ACCEL race type setups) and that the point being made was misunderstood and/or taken out of context by the writer.

If you haven't had the doubtful joy of being misquoted/misunderstood/bowdlerised by a journalist you are a very lucky chap...

Rubbish, there must be more to Fourways comment than that........

Can we get them to reply?

Short answer, Yes! but I can see where you're coming from.

Rob Gaskin, Can we get them to reply?

Good idea Rob :D As has been said they are likely talking about one or two brands of EI. It would be handy too know what brands/models work ok. Maybe we could pull a list together of EI's that work ok and those that don't. Perhaps at someone Fourways could get us started on the 'don't work' models.
I'm using a Mallory Hyfire ignition. I can't tell you if it causes a problem(yet) as so far I haven't tried to fix my rev counter.

What usually happens is people fitting elecrtonic ignition do away with the ballast resistor and take the 12v feed wire and put it straight to the coil and then the rev counter wont work. The power goes through the ballast and then that cable goes all the way back to the rev counter through the loop on the back and then to the coil so the ignition pulses go through this wire so by putting the feed straight to the coil you lose this part of the circuit. Simples.

We have had problems with rev counter operation on some electronic ignition kits. (Mainly on imports)
The magazine article writer seems to have put a bit of artistic licence on one of our quotes.

Ah a bit of a miss quote! Thanks for making it clearer ;) Don't suppose you recall what electronic ignitions you've had problems with do you?
