Used it today and found a few small issues that need sorting. The gear change isn’t very good and on inspection the gear lever bushes are shot so ordered new ones. Bit of a clunk at the near side rear over bumps so assume rubber top mount gone, but will check when I replace the shocks and springs.
The radio aerial stopped working so have removed centre console and checked all plugs and working again - does up and down again.

Where did you purchase the car cover from
Hi, someone I know through my TR7 links, Alastair Flack @ Hamilton Motorsport.
They’re made to order and forgot to mention I only have a drivers door mirror so I now need a passenger side mirror to fill the cover LOL
Nice to know another Z in my area.

That is a very nice cover indeed! [emoji106]

Oh I so want / need one. Dare I ask about the cost?

Such a great car and the detailing is amazing!!!!

Thanks, love it

£300 for the cover, but protects the body when I invariably use the car as a table EXTRA:)

Wow that's juicy but worth it for a decent cover and the longterm protection it offers.

Lived with the car for a few weeks now and getting around a few jobs. The clutch slave cylinder was leaking slightly so have replaced it, along with new master cylinder. Clutch feels great now. Gear change also much improved after replacing the shifter bushes.
Have removed the old Sparkrite SX2000 module that the original owner fitted.
Also decided to replace the coil and distributor rotor arm.
Just waiting for a new steering wheel and that’ll be it.
There’s some evidence of localised re-paint but blends in well with the original paint.

Beautiful engine bay! I’m more into the original ones so love looking at cars like yours. I keep meaning to do a thread on my own one.

I presume that the original rad hoses were braided like the 240 ones? I’d like to get some for mine but the cost ... ££££

I’d like to keep it close as I can to original, and some of the hoses look quite old, so will need to have a look at replacement options.

I took the rear panel off recently and found it had already been repaired and glued so not great condition. Managed to get a spare rear rear so have painted it, and although not original I can go back if needs be. Everything else seems fairly stock, and I prefer the rear black panel than the brown-ish colour it had become.

I've now got a modified 240Z so I can tinker with that and leave this one as it is.

Not sure if I updated on another post, but will add here anyway. I'm officially the 2nd owner because the guy who bought it at auction in 2017 was a dealer (collector really). He was a registered dealer but collected many cars but never sold any until recently. As a dealer he never became an official owner, but to be honest he bought it and put into storage until I bought it last year. So he never actually used it or did any work on it.
When I received the V5 it noted the original owner from 1980 and I managed to find that he was well know in the Sci-Fi / Special Effects era of the 1970's/80's. So through various search options I tracked where he now lived and sent a letter. He phoned me some weeks later and had a chat. His name is Ron Hone.
We spent most of the call talking about his life, rather than the car, but I'm hoping to catch up again and get more info.
What I do know is that he only recently retired in his late 70's because his skills have been lost in younger people and CGI. He was intrumental with doing the electronics for Yoda in Empire Strike Back, and also did a lot of work on R2D2. He also worked on Return of the Jedi, and many other famous films like Hound of the Baskervilles, Conan the Barbarian, The Princess Bride, Robin Hood, Lost in Space, Die Another Day, The Omen & Legend - and other in between.
He bought the 260Z in 1980 due to the payment he got from Star Wars and already had a daily 260Z but wanted a new one, and found the only 260Z for sale new in 1980 in Carlisle. So he bought it.
The rest of the conversation was about his film life and never got to finish talking about the Z but he said he'd send some more info, but never received anything yet so0 need to catch up with him again.

Ron has been a member of the Club. Pretty sure I've spoken to him when I was Membership Sec.

Great history ... you know the value has just gone up ten-fold ...

I can see the auction blurb now... “Darth Vadar is rumoured to have driven this Datsun ...”
