Not sure if I updated on another post, but will add here anyway. I'm officially the 2nd owner because the guy who bought it at auction in 2017 was a dealer (collector really). He was a registered dealer but collected many cars but never sold any until recently. As a dealer he never became an official owner, but to be honest he bought it and put into storage until I bought it last year. So he never actually used it or did any work on it.
When I received the V5 it noted the original owner from 1980 and I managed to find that he was well know in the Sci-Fi / Special Effects era of the 1970's/80's. So through various search options I tracked where he now lived and sent a letter. He phoned me some weeks later and had a chat. His name is Ron Hone.
We spent most of the call talking about his life, rather than the car, but I'm hoping to catch up again and get more info.
What I do know is that he only recently retired in his late 70's because his skills have been lost in younger people and CGI. He was intrumental with doing the electronics for Yoda in Empire Strike Back, and also did a lot of work on R2D2. He also worked on Return of the Jedi, and many other famous films like Hound of the Baskervilles, Conan the Barbarian, The Princess Bride, Robin Hood, Lost in Space, Die Another Day, The Omen & Legend - and other in between.
He bought the 260Z in 1980 due to the payment he got from Star Wars and already had a daily 260Z but wanted a new one, and found the only 260Z for sale new in 1980 in Carlisle. So he bought it.
The rest of the conversation was about his film life and never got to finish talking about the Z but he said he'd send some more info, but never received anything yet so0 need to catch up with him again.
