Hey everyone

I’m new to the club and have literally just got my first Z. A lovely 260z 2+2 in need of restoration. I’m looking forward to getting the spanners out and getting her on the road so any tips or advice will be well received.

She’s come from California so luckily minimal rust, but everything else needs sorting out so looking forward to a long term project.

I live in Saddleworth, just outside Manchester so if anyone’s nearby just let me know.

Nice to meet everyone.

Thanks

Pete

Welcome to the club! Looks like there's fair amount to do but nothing that won't already be covered on the forum somewhere :)

Hi Pete, I spot a little face taking it all in from the driver’s seat - a reason a lot of new owners get the 2+2, which are becoming popular. Looks like a decent shell from the pics which is a good start. Nearly a quarter of a century off the right looking at the tag, and the usual dash/hatch rubber vs heat results - cars do suffer when left standing in it. But nothing is insurmountable with these, if you’re willing to get your hands dirty! What are your plans for it?

hey everyone, sorry for the slow reply, I didn’t see the notification come through my email. Just sorted that out.

Ha ha, yes work benches complete front and rear, or a pub bench for a relaxed sit down and pint when working on her. I’ll get another 2ft of drive space when they come off .

Great spot on the little face, that’s my nephew Ted, he came over to help with the move. I’ve got 5 year old twin girls so you’re right on the thinking on the 2+2. I like the idea that we can all go out when she’s road worthy.

As she’s been sat in the Cali sun for 20+ years the plan is to get the basics sorted first so I can get the engine started and then work back through everything else bit by bit. The body is in really good shape which is a big plus and the engine turns over. But time will tell .

The forums been really useful already especially in sourcing parts. The only question mark I have at the moment is over weatherstrip kits. The sun’s taken its tole so I’m trying to find a 2+2 kit in the UK. It’s looking like I might need to buy one from the US though. I’m sure I’ll figure it out. All part of the fun.

Welcome to 2+2 ownership. Nice to see another potentially on the road even though the steering wheel is on the wrong side!!

Sourcing parts for these is not the easiest thing. Everything from the A-pillar back is completely different to the 2-seater and panels are hens teeth to get hold of so if you have a good body to start with that's a bonus. Most of the common mechanicals you can get from Rock Auto but the more specialist parts you may need to source from US suppliers or Japan as there are no UK based parts sources anymore.

WRT weather strip, you should be able to pick up most of it from places like Motorsport Auto or Z Car Source but you won't get the door seal trim (the 2-seater weatherstrip doesn't fit). I got mine from Woolies Trim as non-specialist trim and shaped it to fit round the frame.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll check those out. Really good shout on Woolies, I might order some general seals from them first to sort the doors out.

Luckily the panels are in good shape and pretty much rust free. Inside it’s the usual damage from being in the sun so I’ll try and preserve as much from the back as possible as the parts will be a challenge.

Yep LHD and automatic, so plenty of fun there
