New to the world of Z

Hello!

Having owned a 240Z for over a year now I thought it was only right to join the infamous zclub.net forum.

For those that care, its a UK 73' Red (more like orange) RHD 240Z. The car was restored about 10 years ago and although it runs almost perfectly, it was stored in what I can only imagine was a pool of fresh salt water. The paint is bubbling in a few areas and there was a bit too much use of body filler for my liking.

The interior seems to be mostly untouched and you can tell. The seats are the cloth/leather type with the interior trim coming with a special optional extra - black duct tape. I imagine this was for weight saving.

I plan to enjoy the car as is during the summer but then look into a potential respray/restore when it gets colder. I adore my s30 and only makes me think why I didn't go for one sooner!

Look forward to tapping into your brains for some knowledge and knowhow, while hopefully being able to contribute something myself.

If anyone has any memory or information about the car from before that would be awesome.

Cheers,

Taj

Love the look of the car, and I too love the number plate! Enjoy it just as it is - you can always strive for perfection later. Sometimes if you get them looking TOO good you can become too afraid to even drive them. Welcome to the forum - and hopefully the Z Club. You will find a lot of people on here with a tremendous amount of knowledge about the cars (I'm not one of them).

Looks good!

Hold off taking to bits and drive it for as long as possible. You have the same plan as me, I'm just concerned about how long mine is going to be in pieces!

Agree with the comments enjoy it the way it is for as long as you can, once in bits you never know how long it will be in bits & how much it will end up costing. My advise is stock pile all the parts that you think will be needed & then go for it. A minter is no good though as you worry too much about it all the time & notice every blemish that appears on it, been there done that.

Hi all. Thank you for your kind words!

Welcome to the club
What is the current status on the wheels?
White or Black?

The wheels are currently dark grey. They came on the car as white but personally didn't like the look of them. I think they are Wolfrace wheels. A set of RS Watanabe's is on the cards with any luck!

The number plate is a hint to the future of 240z prices (with any luck) - YEN 100M :)

I agree definitely want to enjoy the car before it becomes a work in progress. The other option would be to give to a specialist to work their magic but I run the risk of turning it into a trailer queen!

Hi,

Love the car - I have one the same colour (I think) ... I much prefer the darker wheels as on the car - if you ever look to get rid of the wheels you currently have - I am sure I could be interested! Can I ask the size please?

Having owned a trailer queen (not a Z), which turned into a royal PITA, I'd go the other way while you enjoy the car - look to replace and upgrade where you can and see where you are in a year or two.

Once you go the full respray route it's hard to put the old original unrestored or replaced bits back in the engine bay, and then it gets VERY expensive/time consuming!

I'm sure you love it as it is!

Cheers. Will keep you in mind when the time comes to sell them! The wheels are 6J x 14, and its current rubber is 195/60 in the front and 215/60 at the rear - don't ask me why but I assume it could be for aesthetics or for lighter steering perhaps...

I agree, have already started looking for parts to get her back up to a good standard and its the interior where I will be focusing on this summer. I'm worried to see whats behind the duct tape.

Duct tape - you're lucky then. I'm pretty sure some of the stuff in mine is artex, not even filler!

According to google 100 million Yen is about £729,000 so if Zs reach that price we'll all be happy (and retired!)

If the rest of the 240's were to suddenly rot away, I might be in with a shot!

Mate, I'm glad I'm not the only one :)

Duct tape - it's considered acceptable 'wear' (if you're selling ... )

Go to 11.58 in ...

I appreciate you trying to make me feel better! Perhaps I need to take photos of my duct tape situation and post them here...and listen out for the gasps!

Welcome to the club Taj.
Nice looking Z!
