    Hi all

As per the title, I am a new member, I am currently searching for a 240z/260z that needs some tlc.

I will probably post in the other forums for help finding a car as I've been asking around; about importing from the US etc.

Hope to have something to show soon!

There's a solid US contact on here (Saccyclone) if you are thinking of going the US route. All depends on budget.

That's good to know. From what I was looking at (shipmycar) I was looking at £2k to import? I wasn't sure if that was good or not. Was advised to join an owners club and start asking about.

Definitely not afraid of importing, as from what I can see the car is scarce in the UK + rust etc

Mike (Saccyclone) is solid, I met him in person. He charges you a fee to find a car but he knows what to look for. I got a mate to look at a car "with surface rust" and it was not good enough, the second time around for me but I'm at the cheaper end 280 2+2 I purchased of a lady directly

WestCoastShipping charge $1300 inc insurance and £450 this end

    Thanks Mike and Robbie ;)

Martin, go with Robbie's figures as he has just imported recently.

I understand your looking for a 240/260 to import from the states. You might think about a US 280 as well to open yourself up to more cars. The 260 in the states is a one year only car (1974), not the same car that you got in the UK.

When your ready to talk budget, that would help a great deal and condition as well. Are you looking for a mostly stock vehicle or modified and are you willing and able to do work yourself on the car.

Maybe you just want to get in and drive the car when it arrives?

Purchase budget will dictate condition and many other factors.

    Hi SacSyclone

I guess a 280z would be more likely in a better condition than a 240z. I would consider it. In terms of mods, I would like it to be as near to standard as possible, I would understand if there's the odd-after market part on there however.

I am willing to work on the vehicle myself and I have a good contact that can sort out body/rust problems.

    I'll PM you my budget

Well, I've introduced myself already and now I have purchased a 240z from the eminent Mike aka SacCyclone.

Its a 1972 240z originally silver, built in December 1971, currently in silver (although faded) it has an L28 engine on board with a 5 speed manual gearbox. And a very cool burgandy bonnet/hood.

The plan is to get a feel for the car and enjoy it as much as possible for a year or so. I may tune up the suspension and repaint the bonnet as that's needed.

Build up some replacement parts during that time and eventually strip it right down and give it a good treatment so as to breath new life into it.

My idea is to keep it as original looking as possible but with my own personal touches and a few mod cons.

    Hi Martin.....

Congrats on the arrival of the car and great to see the boxes inside arrived as well.

Be sure to check all the fluids and some fresh petrol.

If you are in need of any parts from the states be sure to let me know so I can help out.

I've not heard anything as yet from the shipping agent. Its difficult because Pondo and Mikee popped round on Saturday and now I can't contain my excitement!

You mean aside from the duct-tape ?

Seriously, when you know what you've bought and you have your moneys' worth - all is cool. Good luck with her and although, I'd have echoed the 'consider a 280Z also' speech, a 240Z is still the mythic car.....of course the later cars make for better road cars...or so they tell us:p !

Excellent Martin - bet you can't wait for it to get here. Another one leaves the US, courtesy of Saccy - don't worry, they have enough of 'em.

No, that's not what I meant  I would probably have said so if I'd thought it an important consideration.

It 'probably' needs sill inner and outer, bottom of door or new skin and bottom of front wing or new - maybe Mike can confirm or deny this ?

Just had confirmation from the shipping agent, due in Southampton 21st October.

He said as a matter of interest, there is a datsun 240z 1973 in the same container.

    "I deny this"
The passenger door has a dent / scrape along the side which any competent body man can repair. A few rust bubbles under the paint here and there but it is a very solid car. I went over the body and mechanicals with the buyer so he knows what he is getting into. One of the dog leg panels had a few inches of rust through so it was cut out and both the inner and outer dog leg replaced with new metal. The new owner has over 100 photos of the car so he knows what is coming his way. Hopefully he will start a thread on his build when it arrives.

I certainly will, as, some of the mod cons I have in mind, I can't see anything on the Internet or on this forum? Plus I plan to do my own wiring loom from scratch.

I don't know how difficult these tasks will be, but hopefully I can be a guinea pig and help others along with it.

I have discussed the car at length with Mike, and I agreed with him, any car that is approaching its 50th will no doubt have its rust issues. That being said the car looks pretty damn good. And I look forward to it.

I like that positive attitude. One thing for sure is that if you're getting it from Saccy, it will be 'as described' ...
