Hi Alan, yes I fully understand that Kevin's car is worth way more than an MZR car but I was trying to make a point. That is where I'd rather put my money than into an MZR car (as stunning as they are).

The rally car is a wonderful piece of history for which I would gladly build a conservatory.

Whoah Alan:cool: !

Yes, I'm interested in all things 'works' and competition and more so those that aren't USA based - not because I'm against 'them' but more for the (over here) unsung, underestimated and almost scorned upon JD race achievements.

Liking something doesn't infer hating another - merely a preference - ok ?

I love and respect what Kevin has done with No.5, at least as much as his rallying with OMT and I was speaking from again, a personal preference :

I don't like rallying myself - I prefer circuit so even if I could buy his car - I wouldn't use it and in fact based upon the time and money support needed...I couldn't : ipso facto - not a judicious buy for me.

Do you have any news of that ex-works car or did it just disappear into the New World ?

If I had the budget, I'd a have a dedicated track Z but I haven't so a well-sorted road car that can be amused with however on a track occasionally is just right.

But I bet few of MZRs cars will enjoy a track-day...no probs and each to their own.

As for the Zama museum - it must be fabulous and if only Nissan here would make an effort to appreciate and exploit their heritage whether internally or via the passionate owners - I'd be happy man.

Is the MZR going to become the new SAMURI ?

Great minds....

http://zclub.net/forum/showthread.php?t=28659&page=6 see post Post 90

They would need to successfully race a few first.

They certainly get a very positive reaction from people who have seen them but they would need to do the same during road-testing. No reason why they can't but Samuri's were being compared to the current (on sale) car on which they were based. So different times really.

Rob. Watch this video and it will help you understand the comparison between MZR and Singer.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJQ4hQSusjE

Great video - MZR need to publish something similar but who was the bod with the crash helmet on really ragging it on the circuit ?

1x difference explained early on - Singer will sell packages to cars outside of their workshop.

1x theory that MZR are disputing : "(the 911) is THE only potentiel car to have in your garage, your collection...."

The Singer (when I listen to the woner's description in that video) is a can-do-all car, if you only have one classic car in your garage - this is the one for it'll do commutes, tracks, shopping and social runs.

For MZR to compete directly with that, they'd have to redesign the 2+2 Zs' roofline !

So, this is back-dating ? Taking a modern car and making it look/feel older.

But MZR is taking a old car and making it feel younger...non, whilst adding a bit of age into the interior to balance the books ?

Thanks Matt, yes I enjoyed that but the car is bonkers - way way over the top. Wonderful engineering but if you 'throw' that much money at it ......

If MZR are after that type of customer then they are doing a good job but IMO (yes mine) people won't spent fortunes on a Datsun so they need to be careful - which I'm sure they are.

I have tended to be at the other end of the spectrum - spend the minimum for the result. Most of the Singer is want rather than need.

I want that rally Datsun but I don't need it - Human Failure!

As I have agreed the MZR Datsuns can enhance the perception of Joe Public about Datsuns - they are 'coming around' to them.

Rob your statement of taking a modern car and making it feel older.the car that does that and has a z handling feel is a BMW Z4 coupe you can feel the old school feel in its handling and steering.sticks like the perferbial to a blanket, one of the best balanced cars out there, might get meself an m3 coupe, going for serious money now

I don't think MZR are trying to enhance the perception of Datsun's. The people who are buying MZR's are not buying Datsun's. They are buying the iconic 240z. I love other Datsun's but believe the 240z is the iconic and people with money do want them.

Hmmm, I'd love Rahail's take on all this. I believe he is trying to enhance the public's perception of Datsun 240Zs.....and he has his own reasons for doing so.

The 240Z IS a Datsun. Agreed it is iconic here and it is the only export S30 people aspire to (have to be soo careful of the terminology nowadays :D).

I saw these MZR cars at the NEC, I must admit that they're stunning, the work that has gone in to them is fantastic and I believe they bring a good bit of publicity to the old Datsuns. Yes I get it they're not original and to a lot of people an 80k price tag would be somewhat eye watering but I also agree with the sentiment above that these cars are aimed at people who want an iconic 240z not a Datsun (desipte it being a Datsun of course). Personally if I had 80k I don't think I'd buy one as I feel they're a bit too far removed from the original spec but I can 100% appreciate the work gone in to them.

I think the Singer analogy works well - I only really want one because it's that classic 911 shape and it doesn't particularly raise the status of classic Porsches to me (they do that on their own).

I get the impression MZR would build a car for a customer to whatever spec / level of originality they want provided they were willing to pay for it. If I had the cash to pay someone else to build me a restmod 240z - they look like they'd do a great job.

So taking that personal view and adding into it that most here, although admiring the MZRs, wouldn't pay that for one of them.....what Z would induce you to pay +£80k on a Z in a forchette of £80-100k ?

Alan has already dashed some hopes with estimated works cars values similar to those quoted by JDClassics.....so, what is left ?

I wonder if we'll see a 110 Red and Rootes Bronze version with a big front spoiler?

Joking apart if they could get (buy) agreement from Spike it could be a money spinner.

It's been done with the Mini Cooper, Fiat 500 Abarth, Ford GT and come to think of it recently with the Samuri.

I think ultimately we're talking a few years down the line but that sort of money is going to be reserved for examples as close to original as possible.

There's a hundred potential jokes in that, but it's my turn to cook dinner tonight and I'll just have to say...
