My twin turbo build...

Hi guys,

finally my tuners started working on my Z. They stripped down the engine and now the block is at the machine shop. They should start rebuilding it next week. Once finished I'll post up full details of parts, etc. It'd be great to get to 500hp at the hubs once broken in and tuned, but we'll see :D

Had my Z since new, so it's been a long journey (5 years), just hope I'm not going to regret it :driving:

Great to see some strip-down pics! Aren't they a tall engine?

500bhp, no you shouldn't regret that ;)

update: engine block is back from the machining shop, they are about to start the build, wohoo!

I'm a bit baffled by the piston clearance issue, but we'll see :) Link to my other thread

Sweet, look forward to seeing the finished article.

It's a shame all that bling goes inside never to be seen again though. :)

TDI in Thurrock are doing it, being one ot the very few tuners in the UK with previous experience with the VQ35DE.

Can't wait now, although I'm still aprehensive about it all tbh

Cool Tdi South. I'm quite friendly with TDi North.

Did you not consider Abbey?

Abbey didn't really even come up in my shortlist. I think they might have some experience with installing vortech superchargers on the VQ, but AFAIK they have no experience of taking the engine apart etc for our engine, while TDI do. TDI also had experience with mapping the ECU I'm going to use (Haltech) which is equally important

TDI north have no experience with VQ builds, at all as far as i know

update!

good news is that things are moving on, bad news is that shop found some valve issues so the head is going to the machine shop to get that sorted. I'm glad I told them to inspect the heads too. Wondering if it would be a good time to have some headwork done!

Cool. I know Abbey were GTR specialists but i'm not sure about how much they know about VQ engines. They are working a special VQ engine from the states though.

I think you're right about TDi North, they mainly focus on RB's and Vtec engines.

Good luck with everything though, i bet you can't wait till it's complete.

Moderators can we please ensure this thread is kept on topic? I can't read the above message (and neither I want to) but would like this thread to be kept on topic, otherwise I'll just delete it and not bother posting on here anymore.

TheMinel - did you have inspiration from another build or is this your own special recipe?

Valerio, the build is looking good!

Hi Mike,

thanks! It'd be looking better (probably finished!) if the valve bucket that was supposed to be in stock in Amsterdam, was actually there as we were told when ordering it! Good old Nissan eh?

Coming from Japan now, and taking AGES. And the build is stopped because of this

Ask Nissan to put the order in as 'VOR' (Vehicle off Road); following that you could ask them to upgrade the order to 'VIP'.
