Hi Jason

( no pix) Yes it’s all emissions junk. Remove EGR and the BPT and cap off the vacuum lines on the throttle body. I think there’s another valve lurking about but once you’ve removed the other two components and associated hoses I think it’s redundant and can stay where it is.

Ah yes that one. I’ve got a spare manifold That think had a blanking plug on it. I’ll have a look see. Failing that just a bolt of the same size will do.

I did this on our ‘78 280Z recently as part of a top end rebuild and refresh.

You could have a go at getting the EGR pipe nut out of the exhaust manifold but you’d want to get some serious heat into it. I just ground off the thin steel pipe down flush with the nut and then drove a short M10 stud down into it and then ground that flush.

I didn’t blank the underside of the inlet manifold when removing the EGR. There is no point as it’s just an empty chamber. I just cut the fitting off.

If you want any specific photos of hoses and connections then let me know. I know there’s a lot going on with the vacuum hoses and it can all be quite daunting 👍

Thanks a million Behr

If I pull and cap everything else does it matter if the pipe from manifold to EGR just stays there - for now ?
Seems to me exhaust gas might go up the pipe but it's all blocked off and has nowhere to go - not perfect, or even ideal but shouldn't do much damage or hurt the engine ??

In my case I was taking the inlet manifold off so it had to come apart. Despite taking precautions I snapped the EGR pipe trying to undo it so I had to deal with it.

If you’re not removing either one of the manifolds then just leave it in place. Worst case is that it’s a heat conductor up to the inlet manifold.

Condenser and radiator replaced without too much of a hitch
All connecting pipes including automatic gearbox oil cooling pipes replaced

Took the car to a garage to get the work checked by some people who know !
First time I had it on garage jacks

The work I did is ok - couple of bits need tidied and sealed but otherwise ok

But manifold is cracked and gasket is blowing - nice collection of soot underneath the gasket so it's been there longer than I've had the car

The garage said they would install the manifold and we will clean the petrol tank at the same time

Quite a big day of "finishing" today

First time the majority of internals were on the car in quite a few years
- Door cards (minus door handle surround and finishers - continuing refurb)
- centre console (apart from a couple of lights)
- scuff panels
- remaining emblems (boot and side panels)

She is looking very good
Some fitting related teething problems with the exhaust that I'll fix tomorrow (slight knocking)
Manifold blowing seems to be worse - but may also be that I'm just overly aware of it

Anyway - some pics

It’s worth looking for a replacement for that pipe. Any air leak between the AFM and the throttle body will upset the running of the engine. It’s very intolerant of air leaks.

You can get some replacements from places like the zcardeport https://zcardepot.com/search?q=AFM&type=product
Huw et al

I've seen quite a few cars have replaced this hose afm-throttle body pipe/hose/boot with a simple silicone hose and gotten rid of the bypass?! (is that the air regulator pipe ??)
Is this advisable for me ? Advantages or disadvantages ?
Is I was to do this what do I do with the other end of the bypass pipe ?

That pipe links up idle air control. It needs to stay.
