Radiator change with Auto Gearbox

Anyone on here can give me some guidance on steps for radiator change for auto gearbox cars
I got a handy cheat guide (below) from an old thread on another group and would like to get some additional steps for the auto gearbox added -

1> Drain the radiator.

2>Jack the front of the car and put it on jack stands (cross member)

3>Remove top radiator hose (loosen the hose clamps)

4>Remove the bottom hose from the radiator (you can leave it connected to the water inlet on the engine.) This will have to be done from below.

5>Remove the top fan shroud think it has 2 Phillips head screws. (Be careful the plastic may be brittle.

6> You should remove the Fan from the water pump pulley. But I have done it with out removing the fan. 4 10mm nuts are very hard to get too.

7> Remove the lower fan shroud (again I think 2 screws)

8> Remove the 4 12MM bolts that hold the radiator in.

please let me know

I'd suggest undoing the stopcock at the bottom of the radiator and draining it before step 3.
You shouldn't need to remove the fan (as long as you can get the shroud off - my car doesn't have one).
On my car at least, the 4 bolts have loose nuts on the other end.

Depending on the condition, think about replacing hoses, heater hoses, and water pump since the radiator will be drained. Then you won't have to worry about failure of those for years to come. Just a suggestion.

Radiator out, condenser out
Most of the exhaust out

First time I've ever attempted anything like this and things went quite well...considering

But I need some advice .....
The manifold/headers->downpipe connector
2 x 14mm, 1 x 17mm
All three came out no problems

But I've been left with this spacer ??, behind the 17mm bolt
Downpipes are rigid, no movement at all

Not sure how to get that off (I've PB blasted it and will leave overnight)

Any advice ?

I hope you're blanking off the EGR valve ?

Looks like a rusted on washer to me Jason. Can you tap it off with a screw driver and hammer?

Ha
I've not really got round to figuring out how to install yet  but thanks very much for the tip

I'll try to figure out what that means tonight :hurray:
I have a spare blanking plate and gasket if you need one, but you can get fancy engraved Alu ones.

EGR Exhaust bolt "hole" size

Folks
I cant weld and so was hoping to put a couple of bolts into the manifold and under the EGR to cap them off good and tight
Do any of you happen to know what bolt size I need to blank these holes off ? Or where to get them ?

Guys
Some questions on this ...
- Do I have to remove the pipe between EGR and the manifold ? The bolt at the manifold (pic attached Huw) is stuck pretty hard and if EGR is blanked off will it matter ?
- Should I also be removing the BPT at the same time as the EGR ?

EDIT - for some reason can't upload any pics ?! I'll keep trying

Hi Jason

( no pix) Yes it’s all emissions junk. Remove EGR and the BPT and cap off the vacuum lines on the throttle body. I think there’s another valve lurking about but once you’ve removed the other two components and associated hoses I think it’s redundant and can stay where it is.
