My 1990 300zxtt: My whip!

A few months ago i posed pics of my project z31 which is still in the works and may be a little while before road worthy. A couple months ago my nissan tech came to the conclusion that my 240sx daily was not safe to drive and convinced my mom it'd be cheaper just to buy a whole new car. She told me that she'd pay up to $5000 for a new car (i'm only 17) and i found this baby! Has (poorly done) housed of color paint, molded stillen front and rear bumpers, stillen side skits and wing, fairlady 2 tail lights, clear side marker lights, 5 1/2 inch tv screen (not hooked to anything), white face gauges, pillar pods - boost & water temp (water temp inop.), centerforce clutch, cold air intake, greg dupree down pipes, hard pipe intercooler, cat back echaust (unsure of brand, they say "HP" on each one), mine's ecu, tokico shocks (?), enki 16" wheels, and falken low profile tires. I've been working on fixing it up, spent 4500 for the car and about 1500 more on various parts, not to count 900 at nissan, right now i'm replacing the inop knock-off bovs with turbo xs type-h rfl bovs and got a boos conroller. Also replacing the suade interior kit with red leather. It also has a carbon fiber int. kit, "z" seats, stock z floor mats, piaa hid fog lights, prolly some other stuff i forgot. Tell me if you think it was a good deal. Major problems still include paint which had flaws in the metal flakes all over the place and got hit on the driver's side of the rear bumper and took a hige chunk of pain off, no paiters here in gainesville can even do metal flake some i'm just gonna completely repaint it and a/c inop. Got it dynoed at 270 whp but that was with a split vaccume linde, inop. bovs no boot controller and it jsut wasn't running right, guy said he tought the wastegate was stuck open but these cars don't have stock wastegates do they? So i assumed it was the bovs. Tell me what you think! Also these pics prolly won't show the new autobahn88 silicon intercooler connectors (red) only half of which were installed, ordered the wrong frekin' size.

Looks well used. Has someone got hungry and had a go at the steering wheel? How much do you like it? It certainly looks the part and no doubt drives like it. Must be quite a bit to insure a 3 litre V6 for a 17 year old. You're a lucky dude for sure. Enjoy it and post up pics as and when you make mods to it. Love the venue in the background on the last photo by the way. Awesome.

Hehe, yeah i went to Turkey Run with my dad in Daytona a couple weeks ago. Needless to say i didn't exactly fit in but it was fun nonetheless. And the insurance was only like $1 extra compared to insuring the 240sx a month so somethin like $65 a month. i got the whole good student discount and i took drivers' ed so it's not too bad.

Got my new BOVs installed. TurboboXS Type - H RFL (knock-offs?) they are really effing loud. Waiting on the rest of my silicon connectors and an AEM dryair intake. Have red leather interior kit waiting to be installed which will hopefully be accomplished tomorrow. Also recieved my Hallman mbc and installed incorrectly, does anyone have a diagram of how to install one of thoes bad boys? I searched google and coudlnt find any and i cannot tell which of the 3000 vaccume hoses go to the wastegate actuator. Also installed replacement relay for PIAA running lights, and damn are they bright. For some reason i can't post piccs but hopefully when i finish my interior kit tomorrow and do all the other afore mentioned crap i'll post pics of it all.

Okay, i attempted to install the Hallman Manual Boost Controller according to an online manual i found for a TurboXS mbc for a 300zx. While installing it i found a small metal piece in my passenger side wategate actuator line (only on the pass. side) shown in the last pic. I think it's a boost jet, if it's not i have no clue what it is. It isn't stock is it. And if it is a boost jet there should be one on each actuator line. The boost controller does not seem to have affected my boost... and after dropping the throttle it goes to very low RPM about 500 and comes very near stalling. Any help? Got and installed AEM dry air filter, installed last silicone connectors. Also, i was yankin on one of the vaccume lines leading to the pass side boost solenoid and pulled it off of a hose connector of which i could not find the other end to. How will one of the vacuum lines being removed from one of the boost solenoids affect my car? Sorry, still cannot upload photos...

How come you can't upload photos? Are you getting any warning messages or something. Would love to see the mods you're making.

Keeps saying something about a security sometin not verified please contact admin. Last time i forgot to click on the link before i closed the window. I put the boost controller in the correct way, i had some of the vacuum hoses mixed up, now it's aobut 10psi... cant really let them spool high on high trafficed roads, need to get on the highway. Hopefully the interior kit will be finished this weekend, it's a pain removing all that glue off the frekin doors.Think i'm done with the engine, for a while at least. I'd estimate 350 bhp with the boost controller added. Have the pics ready though, not sure what the issue is... like the third time on 3 diff day it's happened. I want a second opinion on the assumed boost jet and still curious if a vacuum hose being removed from one of the boost solenoids will affect the car. Aslo, any comments on the low rpm, near stall, when dropping throttle? I've been having some trouble concerning the BOVs, they keep coming out the turbo line but i think i got them tight enough now, hopefully.:driving:

Upon further inspection i'm fairly sure it's the wastegate vac. hose that is no longer i the boost solenoid... problem?

...wow, so i have some more pics to post. I'll try on a diff computer another time but i hit a freakin owl on a rural highway. Broke the driver turn signal lens cover, took a chunk of paint off in 2 places and spidered a lot more. We'll see if that full coverage helps at all.

Okay, hunted down and fixed the vacuum line that i accidentally removed. Redid the routing for the MBC and mounted it. Engine bay looks much cleaner i think. Have yet to road test the mbc since we didn't finish until 9:40PM and didn't really feel like foolin with it any more. I'll get pics of the new mounting and the (now 2) small metal peices i found in the wastegate line which i assume to be wannabe boost jets. Sorry for another post with no pics, but you'll have plenty to look at tomorrow, hopefully.

BOVs- installed with new air filter (can't get the pics of the old ones compared to new and with the old air filter, files too big)
Silicon connectors replaced and intercooler pipes polished, you can seen the mbc installed, also a close up of mbc, couldn't load the one form the top where it shows the HBC logo
last pic is of the damage from the owl...

forgot to take pics of the boost jets that were in the car but it's running 12 PSI now. I have started seeing white smoke out the left exhaust, local z specialist assumes fuel regulator or injectors which he said have been giving out due to the ethanol in gas

almost done with the interior kit, looks a lot better than that shag that was on it. only the doors are left so i'll post some pic once they're done. i ordered a new steering wheel cover, next i'll either get strut bars or my driver seat repaired. how much do strut bars actually affect handling? are they mostly for show? then afte that i think i'm going to attempt a keyless entry system/alarm system installation. i'll let you know how that goes. also i'm considereing putting the 2 12" subs and 840 amp from my 240sx into my 300zx since my 240 will no longer be mine by next week and they didn't want to take the speakers. i'm just not sure if they are worth the effort and money for the new box, saw some from zenclosures on ebay that leave enough room for the t-tops in the trunk. anyways i'll have thoes pics as they come. Oh yeah, i also got new turn signal light and they look good, i'll get some pics of thoes too.

Don't bother with the audio. Strip all of that out of there and lose any other excess weight and get it real quick!

Yeah, i think that's what i'm gonna do. Already removed spare tire and got a smaller battery. Still need to remove the wiring that is still in it from the previous audio system(multi amps).

I'm 80% the way through my lightweight ice install for my 300 :) If you dodge MDF and use lightweight amps and minimise the number of components you can keep the weight down. I have one hell of a sub in the boot now but the whole install has only added about 20-30kg now :)

Okay, i got a couple of questions. First, there is inconsistent white smoke coming out the exhaust. Usually it's only out the left pipe, i don't believer there's a cross over pipe in my system. Z specialist thinks it's the turbo, a diff mechanic thinks it could be fuel injector(s) or fuel regulator(s), any suggestions on possible causes? Doesn't usually happen at start-up, usually it's after the car is warm and all of a sudden i'll get overwhelmed with white smoke, and usually it'll quit after about a minute. Power steering usually doen'st work after the car sits for a while either. I usually have to restart the car and it'll work dine, it also rarely goes out while driving. Any suggestions on that? Also, i found door sensors, which i am missing currently, on ebay. I was considering installing a keyless entry/alarm system. How effective is the stock security system and how hard is it to install a keyless system, are there any wiring diagrams that make it easy? Haven't gotten the doors on still, i'll get those pics asap.

White smoke usually indicates evaporated water - i.e. steam. May indicate a blown head gasket or just regular water accumulation in the exhaust (if it clears when hot...).
